Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm new to this fire stick stuff.
I don't watch TV on my laptop, just through the fire stick at home on apps like Netflix, Hulu, Livetv....etc

If a network is blocking you from doing something, a VPN can be used to work around it.

If you're watching a torrent hosted in another country, they will block American IP addresses so yes you will need one in that case.

If you use public wifi alot then it's probably a good idea.
If you mainly use your phone's data then maybe not.

As long as you have a paid subscription (or have someone else’s login info) to the apps you are mentioning no. If you are watching those with Cinema, Cyberflix or something along those lines then yes it would be a good idea to have a VPN

Get a TOR Browser if you're that concerned about it. Then launch it when on a public wifi.
VPN connection won't take you off of that public WiFi, it will be like being connected to two networks at once.

No, but worth it IMHO
VPN for $6 not to have to worry about any legal problems.
Bonus: avoiding geo-blocking from many torrents or feeds.
It can mean all the difference in some instances.
