Little over a year ago we had a number floating around here. Called it and they gave me $20 off my bill for a year.

Anyone still have that number or link to that thread?

(800) 531-5000. Ask for "Customer Retention" and then ask what discounts you are eligible for. After they tell you ask if there are anymore you are eligible for until they tell you no more. It works and should take no more than 10 mins. If you don't like what you hear call back a couple days later and try again.

Here's what I posted on another board back in Dec:

quote:

Called DTV back today and in a 10 minute phone call I was able to get my bill reduced $60 a month for 12 months to bring my total monthly bill down to $60.90, which includes HBO for six months.

This was actually very useful. i have been studying up for months. I had finally made the decision i was cutting the cord. i went with Hulu Live. marked all my programs that i record on Directv and set them on there. I called and went through all the motions and set up to be cancelled with Directv. the customer service rep only offered me about 10 bucks off my bill which was around 150 bucks. He had set it up to cut off tomorrow. About 3 hours later i got phone call, basically asking why i was cancelling- after some back and forth talking he upgraded my package, added showtime for 4 months for free and changed my bill to $43 a month for a year. I always have trouble with the credit sticking and somehow it will magically go up about 3 months in, but it was enough for me to stick around at this point.
