I know it's another DIRECTV thread but I do enjoy having it. Before I make the call, any advice on upgrading equipment or do I have the upper hand now that I have been with them for 5 years... or will I get the same ole same ole?? Thanks in advance....

2nd cutting the cord.

Itll be the same ol same ol. 5 years is nothing to them. And I think if you upgrade equipment it locks you into another contract.

Cut the cord. Get PSVue and FireTV boxes. Use antenna for locals.

This is what I did and still think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

At the very least get a stick/roku/chromecast, whatever you prefer, and just sign up for the free week trials of Sling, PSVue, and the Direct Tv streaming service (can't remember the name right now). See which one you like or if any of them work for you.

On another subject, does using a Fire TV box make much more difference than the stick? I have 2 sticks right now and could probably justify getting a box for the living room and moving the stick that's in that TV now to the one that I bring out on the patio when I want to watch games outside.

All of y'all saying, "cut the cord", what do you do about recording stuff you want to save? That's the roadblock for me and my wife - we love to record stuff for later viewing or maybe long term saving.

What do you like watching? More than likely it's on Netflix, Hulu, hell probably even Youtube these days.

PSVue allows you to DVR anything for up to 30 days. In addition, much of it is already available On Demand within the channel guide. Also, you can choose to add a show as a favorite, and it'll always be DVR'd. If you want yo watch a football game, and you come in late? Not a problem.

Also, if you get Kodi (free) and add a few add-ons (like Genesis, Zen, SALT), you'll forget about DVRing.

. We like to time shift shows, usually on Food Network, History, Science, etc. If I want a story, it's probably going to be a movie. Wife watches CNN or MSNBC quite a lot. We like to record local news shows for viewing when we get home.

We don't watch "regular"series on the broadcast networks We have Netflix and Amazon Prime. We just signed a 2-year contract with Direct TV, so I'm not looking for anything immediately, just curious.

My bill has drifted higher in recent months so I called with the "we'll cancel or else" spiel. They were surprisingly recalcitrant. The best they would offer was some bullshite that would have saved me at most like $30/month for 6 months.

If you can get Google Fiber, you'd be in BUSINESS!

Set a cancel date and let them call you. Those people that call can make the deals. That's what I had to do. Pleased with the results.
