My last computer was a MacBook Pro. Got that around 2010, had a nice run but went to shite 2+ years ago.

I decided to go back to school and I'm in Industrial Engineering so will need to run autocad. I don't want to spend 1200+ or so on a computer. I'm looking at the HP Envy 2in1. Would this be a solid computer?

I’d look to get one with an SSD. Im not sure that you’ll deal with too many large cad files in school, but the ssd should boost autocad performance

What about sucking it up and getting a surfacebook? Worth the price?

Was trying to stay under 1k, but if it's necessary to go above then so be it.

I have wanted a Surfacebook for a while. Would it do the job for working with software like autocad? I dunno

check out the Lenovo Yoga 710 and 720, and some of the Dell Inspirons.

IM looking at Lenovo Yoga's right now too.

Surface just seems too rich for what I'm needing this for and Lenovo seems to Check off most of my boxes at a reasonable price

I thought about the Yoga. But I've had 3 people tell me they've had problems with them.

This is difficult

One of the best laptops for the dollar

I would recommend spending an extra $75ish adding a 256gb SSD yourself

I got a big discount on a surface book, so I went for it

Was around a $1600 computer, but came out to under 1200

Find a 2012 MBP, upgrade to 16GB Ram, SSD, and replace the optical drive with a secondary HHD for storage and run El Capitan, not Sierra.

Only thing you won't have is a Retina display, but I get by on CAD without it.

I run the thinkpad P50 w 16g ram and a high end graphics card. A 500g SSD. and I run Revit, Plant 3D. Advance Steel, 3Ds Max, Navisworks and more. Plus I run a full collection of 2017 and 2018 versions. The Lenovo does well.
