When I try to set the pairing the car display just keeps searching, never connects.

Any idea if it is the phone or the car, or how to fix it?

Pixel and BMW iDrive if that matters.

I second what he said. My car has done this a couple times. Pain in the arse but reversible

Ford Sync systems tend to do this from time to time as well.

Pulling the Sync fuse for a minute usually does the trick. Maybe try pulling your radio fuse if all else fails on the BMW.

fwiw i've never had a problem with my ford sync that wasn't solved by turning BT off temporarily on my phone and turning it back on.

Reset network settings on phone. That’s how I fixed mine.
