Gift for kid going to college. My buddy has a Yoga 900 and likes it. I have been looking at Surface Pros as well. Just wondering what the board's experience is with any of these and which may be the best value. TIA

Does Apple do cheesy hybrids yet?

Nothing I like more than typing a 12 page paper on a silicon keyboard! Let me tell ya!

If you are typing 12 pages on a silicon surface pro keyboard then you are fricking doing it wrong sir.

btw, saw another guy carrying around his Macpro and Ipad and I just had to laugh.

Surface i5

As long as your kid isn't looking to hardcore game on it, it will be everything he needs and more.

I routinely run P6, msft suite apps, and bluebeam on a 3 screen setup from an old surface 2 i5.

It is the best piece of tech I have ever owned. It's only gotten better since I graduated and moved to a job in the field.

I turned down an elitebook/iPad combo so I could stick with the surface in the field.

What is the deal with tablet/laptops? They're not really that great. It's such a better option to buy a nice laptop and any cheap tablet. The Amazon tablets work fine.

Surfaces are some of the best pieces of tech on the market. I recommend it to anyone looking for anything short of a high powered laptop.

I have a Surface Pro and think it's great for many purposes, but I'm picky about my keyboards and unfortunately there isn't a tablet keyboard out there that I like, not for any tablet.

He can probably hook up a better keyboard to use at home though while using the regular one in class. Microsoft's Arc Mouse is also a must-have.

Re: performance - it isn't a gaming machine but it's plenty powerful enough for anything else he'd need. I've done client demos on my Surface Pro with enterprise-level apps.

My old company gave us surface pros, was hesitant at first, but after using it with OneNote it was literally the only thing I carried instead of notebook+laptop+whatever else.

I just bought an Eve V, shipping in January. LINK /

Think the low model starts at $950.
