If price isn't a concern, a pair of Ruckus R750's and a POE switch should do it.

You can’t go wrong with Google Wifi/nest, especially if you have kids. There’s some that may be better but not by a big margin. I have google wifi but if I redo things it’ll be ruckus unleashed. It’s so bad arse here at work yet super easy to setup and maintain. 2 R510s are covering around 35 people and 9,000 sq ft.

Keep in mind that a wifi mesh half’s you’re speed for each AP it has to relay through so adding APs can sometimes slow you down. That’s why I prefer to go wired.

Wifi 6 is going to be more noticeably better in congested areas. Maybe not so much at home.

I'm eventually going to have to get a dedicated ap for my house but haven't decided what I want. I've currently got two old all in one routers I've repurposed as APs but they're fairly old now and require reboots more often than I care for. One of them used to be my gateway but I replaced that with an ERX which for the price is an awesome device.

What I need is something that can cover ~3k sqft over two floors. My network hub is right in the middle of the house so I think I could do it with just one device but I'd be willing to tack on a second ap if it came down to it. Not interested in mesh; I'd hard wire the second ap if I had to go that route. I also really prefer to have multiple SSIDs with different vlans for each. I'm sure I could find what I want I just haven't had the time to really look very hard

Just out of curiosity.. why?

You definitely can't do that with the google wifi unless all you need is private wifi and guest (internet-only) wifi. I'm doubtful you can do it with the Orbi, but it is a bit more advanced so maybe? I 100% do that with the Ruckus Unleashed though. If you also screw around with active directory at home, you can hook it all together with a radius/NPS server and enable 802.1x.

You can always hang two different wifi's off of your network. I personally think a single SSID is the best experience if you have multiple APs.

It's not essential, but I'd like to be able to segment certain devices like smart devices from my regular home network. Basically have an internet only network. If I had a separate Ssid on a different vlan I could make all that work with my erx.

Pretty much all wifi routers today can do this, I think. "Guest wifi" is what you're describing. You can call it whatever you want, though.

Edit: Usually devices on a guest wifi can't see each other, either.

I looked into orbi. Pretty that’s what I want. But now the question is which one? The rbk22 plus a satellite is on sale at a Costco for $129. It covers the sq footage I need. I have a 500mbps connection from xfinity. I don’t do a lot of transfer within my network. Is it worth the extra money for the rbk50? I don’t see any killer feature that I’d be missing out on. Is there something I should be thinking about?

i believe the rdk50 is faster at 3000 while i think the 22 is 2200. Orbi has a dedicated back haul channel which makes it a better option that google wifi.
