Ok, another laptop thread.

My old Toshiba needs to be replaced. I do not see many Toshibas in Best Buy or Office Depot. I need one that I can run MS Office.

What are some of the better brands? I'm looking to spend $500-750.

My most recent laptop is an ASUS. ASUS makes some of their laptops with a single hinge that stretches the full way across the base of the screen. I had issues with other laptops with individual hinges on either side of the screen breaking from wear and tear.

That's the main reason for needing a replacement. Like the Asus?

all the major laptop brands have around the same quality standards. its not "best brand" but instead "best model". certain models proved to have terrible reliability, but the catch 22 of that is its very hard to determine which models are good vs lemons until well after they have hit the market.
if you are buying a brand new laptop, stick with business line units vs consumer line. business line models are generally better. dell latitude, hp elite/pro book, etc. asus usually makes good units but they are difficult to repair/source parts for since asus controls the manufacturing process.

In that price range, I like the Huawei MateBook D for $630.

Some truth to this but not completely accurate. For me, HP is the most user friendly out of the box and Asus is the most unusable out of the box.

Overall, I'd say Toshiba has been the best for me as far as quality hardware. I'm using an HP right now. It's easier to work on and modify than the toshiba. It's really difficult for one person to tell another person what will be best for him or her.

It's not bad. Windows 10 is more similar to Windows 7 than Windows 8.1 was to Windows 7.
