Best Cloud Storage for Documents
I have a few computers that I do work from and would like to have access to my documents through the Cloud. Most of this will be scanned in bills, invoices, important documents [tax forms, pay stubs, passports, birth certificates..], word, and excel models. All my photos are backed up via iCloud from the iPhone and I just stream music and videos rather than store them, so there shouldn't be any large multi-media files. Given the nature of the documents, good security is a must.

I have been using Box and box sync to work across systems, but was curious if there were better options. Also, have a netgear router, so it may make sense to create my own cloud with a dedicated hard-drive, but I have never done that before and am not sure of the functionality. Thoughts?

For simplicity's sake, just use iCloud. If you use a mac at home, the integration is top notch across your devices.

For security, ensure you have multi-factor authentication turned on for your apple ID. This will at least protect the access and restrict it better than just a typical user id/password.

I currently use three services, iCloud for personal docs, OneDrive for work and Dropbox for my HOA. They all integrate pretty well.

Will iCloud cross into window platforms too? I use an iPhone, a macbook pro, a ipad pro, and two window laptops depending on the work I want to do.

Yeah it does.

Again, I use all three of those services on a daily basis across my MBP, Surface Laptop, iPad and iPhone and they all work in a similar manner.

Dropbox seems to work the best across both platforms, with iCloud and One Drive working better on Mac and Windows. However, if you already are using iCloud, I could still make an argument for using that over One Drive across all of the systems you are using.

I wouldn’t put business documents on iCloud.

iCloud, MS One Drive and Google Drive all get the job done. I like One Drive the best but use Google if people I plan to share the files with are in the Google ecosystem and I use iCloud if it's a file I plan to access on my iPhone.

What about investing in a NAS (synology or qnap) and utilizing cloud storage as a backup target?

This is a great solution if you know what you're doing.

Set it up wrong and you've potentially exposed your entire LAN to the outside world. Sites like Shodan.io make it super easy to gain access to network storage for those who didn't take the right precautions.

Care to explain your reasoning here? I'm just curious what makes you think the basic plan for any of them make one better than the other.

Breaches of icloud data are pretty well known and even Mac websites criticizes their 2 factor authentication flaws.
