Anyone have a DIY security system?
Looking at something like the Smartthings ADT or simplisafe setup. Does anyone have any experience with these and Pros/Cons?

I just set up a Simplisafe system, couldn't be happier. Very easy to install and easy to add sensors whenever you want.

Do you already have a wired alarm system you are trying to upgrade to make "smart" or no system at all?

Have Nest and love it. Super easy to set up.

I have the remnants of an old ADT system, I don't know if it would be worth trying to fix that one or go all new. I'm not too concerned with the monitoring at this point, but would like the ability to for the future.

Ring is awesome and cheaper than the rest, plus unlimited camera cloud storage, $100 per year or $10 a month. I did a review in the Ring Alarm thread from my install a few months back. Still really happy with it.

re: Anyone have a DIY security system?
check out Konnect.io

It lets you use your existing hardwired sensors and turns it into a "smart" alarm that you monitor from your phone through smartthings. If an intrusion is detected it sends a push notification to your phone.

Since it is smartthings, you can use IFTT to have other things occur when the alarm goes off, like turn on lights, start security cams recording, etc.

Also lets you get rid of your alarm keypad and works with alexa, etc.

If it's a Honeywell or DSC motherboard, you can add an Eyez-on module to connect it to the internet.
