Have a 2 year old Latitude where the battery is swelling so much the keys ave recessed and the housing has separated by upwards of 4 mm at the widest point.
still works, but batter life is shite.

Yep, I had the same problem with my precision laptop. I know of a few others at work with the same issue, we swapped the batteries and did an rma with Dell.

My Alienware had an incredibly shitty battery and after about 2 years would only charge to 40%
i still use the computer at home but you have to have it plugged in or MINIMAL use (for about 20 min) or it will be useless

Contact their support and get a replacement.

Dell is annoying about batteries. You can get a laptop, dock and dual monitors with a 5-year warranty and it will cover pretty much everything EXCEPT the laptop's battery. Batteries have only a 1-year warranty.
I haven't seen the swelling issue you mention (we're exclusively a Dell shop) but I have a trip scheduled to a satellite office where everyone has latitudes and most are complaining that they don't stay connected to their docks any longer (E-series docks). I'll keep the swelling issue in mind. Thanks.

That can happen with any Lithium Polymer battery. Replace battery ASAP before it catches on fire or something.

That goes with just about any gaming laptop

Where I am we are strictly on Dells. We had a bulletin from out tech division a few months ago saying that we needed to monitor out laptops because of the swelling issue. Mine has been ok so far, but several co-workers have had issues.

but battery life is shite
