Kodi is an xbmc app that gives you access to basically every tv show and movie. I'm not sure how it all works but i watched American Sniper friday and Unbroken last night using it. I'm sure its illegal but you are only streaming it and not downloading or hosting anything so I am not worried about getting in trouble using it. There are plenty of youtube vids on how to install and use it.

Even if you didn't load Kodi on it there is plenty of stuff to watch with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon tv. I just cancelled my $137 a month directv service.Hulu and Netflix are $8 each and we had amazon prime already. I need to get an outdoor antenna hooked up this week for my local channels.

Let's clear this up a little bit- xbmc changed its name to Kodi between the Gotham and Helix releases. Unless it's a very, very recently released app, there's essentially no difference between which one you use (install 1 edition old software vs I think the final, non-beta release of Kodi was just released in the last few weeks). All of the streaming you talk about can still be done in xbmc or kodi. It's what you load into either of these that you'll be able to do things with.

In short, yes. Long form- the tvmc addon for the firetv includes several apps that are not in the official repository for xbmc/KODI. Apps that aren't in the repository aren't necessarily illegal or bad to have. However, it does also contain several apps that are on the blacklist for discussing on their forum- these are almost invariably somewhere between shady and illegal. As you say, it's not likely that you'd be caught for streaming. I may be wrong, but I read at one point that the reason that Justin.TV was able to stick around for so long was that the person who is watching a stream isn't legally responsible for checking the content provider's credentials for providing it. Whether things like IceFilms, projectfreetv, or the like are sharing illegal content may not matter if you are just viewing it. Don't take my word for it.

It depends on where the stream is from. It can range from very good DVD quality to a shitty "cam" rip . You just have to look around a bit sometimes

The "cam" stuff is always movies that are currently in theaters. usually an SD version will be released sometime while still in theaters and then HD (1080p and 720p) streams after the title has been digitally or disc released

I have a Roku 3 and really like it, but was just wondering what "sideload" is since I ordered the Fire stick when it was $20 a couple months ago. These names for this stuff... I mean seriously what the hell is sideloading

Thanks, I'll check it out. Briefly looked and from that forum you linked, seems like there is a lot of steps involved unless I missed an easier way. I guess if I was ready to cut the chord I'd be more motivated

For now, I just download and watch on my Roku through Plex. Although I like the idea of streaming if the quality can be HD.

Is a rooted Amazon Fire TV now the one to get? Does everything a WD live/Roku/Apple TV can do?

I want something that can stream .mkv files wirelessly or through ethernet as well as do all of the streaming of Netflix, etc. Seems like it is now.

It took me about 30 minutes the first time, but once you have the program and .apk files saved on your computer already it doesn't take long. I loaded it on a second stick in about 5 minute.

From the other thread, simple how to you tube video: how to load on firestick

Only thing to do different is instead of grabbing the gotham.apk XBMC file get the TVMC files from here and install the tvmcgotham.apk file and you get all the channels pre-installed.

You don't have to root the firestick to load the tvmc/xbmc software.

ironically, Kodi, formerly known as XBMC (Xbox media center) is the biggest one.

Debating on buying fire stick. Would you recommend it? Is there a big difference between the fire stick and the fire tv box?

i dont understand.

To clarify, I have my xbox in living room. If i want to watch amazon prime, or espn, or netflix, then i get on xbox and launch the app.

What is the reason to get amazon fire if i have the xbox? Just keep me from having to go through the xbox every time?
