Yes, I blame the timing of the PL winter break because, for gosh sake, we just CAN’T do it when everybody else does because of TRADITION (by which they mean $$$)!

I'm not terribly worried because Anfield will be a hornets nest, but they got a fluky goal in this one. A fluky one in 3 weeks will make it really tough to advance. Need a blistering start

Fullbacks were poo. Origi was worse. Referee was comically bad.
Honestly I thought Atletico did a great job and I don’t find any issue with the way they play. I’ll never begrudge a team for setting up like this in a european competition. I feel bad for their fans who have to watch this every weekend in the league, but that’s their problem not mine.
If Trent and Robertson play their normal game in the return leg we’ll be fine. I would also like to start a LM or RM with more close control to help the fullbacks deal with the wide defensive triangles (Naby or Minamino). Neither of which are good at defending in our system as wide midfielders, but let be real, we don’t really have to defend against this team at Anfield.

Atlético was set up extremely well as was expected and basically any time we got the ball wide even close to the final third they put a ton of pressure on them to give it up and get it back to the middle cause they knew our FB’s we’re so dangerous. That was the point that we could’ve really used another ball carrying midfielder to help support the fullbacks
A bit unlucky with the first goal but I think that’s exactly how Simeone would have hoped it would go. Anyone who thought this tie would be easy was getting way too ahead of themselves.
That said, we’re still in a decent position for the return leg

Yeah we got Atletico’d. Early lucky goal, clog the middle, park the bus, force us wide, and pressure when we go to the corners. Have to find a way to stretch them on the home leg.

I want to see us try to take the ball to the endline and turn their fullbacks more. They’re set up like a Pulis Stoke side with 4 massive CMs in midfield and they shift them left and right to support their fullbacks and double Andy / Trent. They aren’t interested in controlling the game or even carrying the ball - just smothering and overwhelming our wide play. Naby could help so much with getting the ball around the back of them at the endline.

Yea there were so many opportunities to do it when they were closing down our wing or fullback and a one-two would’ve worked well, but we just never really went for it
Also, Firmino found open space between the two lines of 4 at times and it would’ve helped to have another runner from midfield to come support him from deep to go at their 2 CB’s. But also credit to their CM’s who were working their arse off to close things down quickly before he could get support

I don't get on the soccer board as much as I should, but I must say overall this season has felt like the kicking arse of all of those years of Manchester United, Manchester City have fricked us over.

Hendo out three weeks with a hamstring injury.

I would really really like all those people who confidently state that "Liverpool has had it easy this year" to examine our injury list this season.

Like it, Keita has looked good his last few matches, so with Hendo out he's the natural replacement imo
Posted on 2/24/20 at 1:14 pm to Tigerfan7218
Yep he’s got a great chance these 2-3 weeks with Hendo out to earn some more starting time
