Yep yep, and I'll be sweating it in Charlotte on July 21st.

I wish they were doing a meet-and-greet.

I was going to go to Ann Arbor... but My Bloody Valentine is playing The Riv that night, and well, that wins over preseason... The missus would have killed me... I was thinking of flying to Charlotte solo...

First day back at Melwood

I always love the behind the scenes vids. And as a sports med guy it's always cool to see some of their pretesting and whatnot. Again, no surprise Milly leading the way with the lactate threshold testing what a stud

My opinion (and its only opinion) is that (1) ears bleed pretty easily and (2) ears don't have a ton of nerve endings (squeeze your ear lobe between your thumb and your index finger as hard as you can and you'll see... which is why getting your ear pierced usually isn't such a big deal because the pain is minimal... and, no, neither of my ears are pierced ) and (3) you use your fingers doing pretty much everything and you never use your external ear for anything at all outside of hanging things on it (yeah, a pin prick on your finger isn't such a big deal, but why deal with any residual soreness if you don't have to?).

makes sense in that regard... I just wasn't sure if there was a significance behind it..

No release clause---there always seems to be a release clause

Sounds like either Jack Butland or Nick Pope then.

Honestly, I'm becoming less and less impressed by Allison at the price that seems to be demanded for him, so if we can't finagle Oblak then, frankly, I won't be disappointed with anyone. Because, at that point, all we're buying is "competition" and not a clear upgrade.

Theyre saying not Butland, but who knows... I think it's probably going to be comp for Karius and a Migs replacement... Im okay with that, especially if we get a new RCB... with Keita and Fabinho adding some steel to the spine in midfield.. I think we'll be improved..

I like Alisson and wouldn't be upset if we doled out for him, but he is a sweeper keeper, like Karius, and has some nervy moments and mistakes in him... Maybe not as many.. Before the last season, nobody here would have suggested him as a GK for us...

Karius had a nightmare in our biggest match of the season (did concussion play into that? not sure), but prior to that he was a much improved keeper and growing into the role as our #1.. maybe I just have a soft spot for the guy and am completely off base

Watching the Swiss team in the WC, we really missed out on Akanji... He's been great and a bargain at £15mm...

BvB basically swapped him out for Sokratis and got a major upgrade..

Pretty much all that and they're trying to draw quick from an area they can get to easily so they can get back to running

This is pretty much how I feel. Obviously an upgrade would be great but I agree Allisson is looking like he might not be worth the price that's rumored and Oblak would just be crazy expensive.

I'd rather keep Karius as a started than most of the other names mentioned except maybe Strakosha, but I think it was Pearce shot down that rumor.

I also agree strengthening midfield will help strengthen a good bit as well. We improved dramatically on set pieces so I'd like to think improving our midfield to not lose possession in bad spots coupled with actually having a true DM will help as well.

Still adding Fekir would be nice, but Ox paired with Keita and Fabinho is still exciting to think about. And I know a lot of people wouldn't be terribly excited but Henderson paired with the other 2 is also a solid, physical midfield that would cover a lot of ground and make it even more difficult to score on

TL;DR strengthening other positions should help take pressure off Karius if that's who we stick with

Even if we dont sign another attack minded mid... Fabinho and Keita with Ox/Hendo/Gini/Milner/Lallana is miles ahead of last season..

I still think we need 4 at a minimum:

RCB
GK (either a #1 or backup)
AMF
A forward who can play across the front 3
