His goal against city was world class, but still not his ceiling. He’s got the talent but needs to get healthy and stay that way. If he can’t (he hasn’t yet) I do feel he’s running out of time.

His shift in the liverpool game during project restart was what his ceiling looks like. It was as dominent as any chelsea attacking player in the last handful of years next to hazards best.
That little period after the covid break, he seemed to be reaching a new level. But ever since its only been little flashes.
Looking at the stats between him a pepe, who was the other hot name at the time, really shows that CP just hasnt been able to put it all together enough.

Interesting Predicted XI today vs Villa:
(3-4-3): Bettinelli, Chalobah, Christensen, Sarr. James, Saul, Loftus-Cheek, Chilwell. Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Werner.
Would love to see it actually. Not much weight placed on this one with City at the Bridge this weekend.

Here are the real starters:
Starting XI: Arrizabalaga; James, Chalobah, Sarr; Hudson-Odoi, Saul, Kante, Chilwell; Ziyech, Werner, Loftus-Cheek
Surprised to see Kante in there. We need him for for City this weekend. Glad Chilly is getting a shot. First ever start for Sarr. RLC also getting love. Hopefully Saul rebounds from his first outing.

Nice job by the second team today. Timo needed that. Kepa looked good. Chalobah is a future star. RLC looked decent- good for him. Ziyech and Saul were bad. Chilly not great. Kante was Kante. Reece James is so valuable. I hope Kante is fit for City as well as Mendy, but I’m warming to Kepa getting more time if necessary. Next up in the Carabao Cup is Southampton.

This one is on Tuchel.
Disappointing.
Disappointing.

At least RLC looked pretty good. Would be nice to get him back on track.

Rarely gets outcoached. Disappointing.

Not having CP or Mount limited the lineup. I don’t like Timo starting with Rom.

Yeah, today he was the one who blinked instead of pep.
Tinkered when he didnt need to.

Seemed like we definitely were lacking on creativity side of things. I like the way CP and Mount take on and run right at the defense. RLC looked sharp when he came on. Big match against Juve Wednesday and then look to rebound in the Prem against Southampton, before the international break!

Just now watching, 25 minutes in and the team is sorely lacking the creativity Mount brings in the midfield. CP too when he’s healthy, but it’s been a while. As good as Kante is he’s just not that player.
Side note, Toni is quickly becoming my favorite presence on the back line.
Side side note, update on James? ETA: Dave is my favorite still bc he can move from rcb to rwb to replace James and allow you to bring on Thiago Silva. Christensen shifts and you still have a back line that could have started. I dig it.
Michael Ballack sighting

Nearly at halftime now, and the lack of creativity in midfield has prevented me from really seeing these two as a pair. They can’t get started whereas MC can’t seemingly stop. MC has had a lot of really good chances they’ve wasted.

I really had high hopes for the creativity of ziyech, he is just too small and too limited to have an impact
reece has shown flashes of creativity but when the #10 is not available and mount is out we lack in the creativity department. especially in the middle
MC has several guys that can score and create, CFC just doesnt without 10 or 19

Agreed. 3-4-2-1 should be home base. The cam spots are crucial, but behind Mount and Kai it’s a mixed bag.
Can CP stay healthy, can Ziyech find his voice ( I hope so too ), can Werner give you minutes from that spot, do you flip it to 3-4-1-2 when he comes on, etc?
