Agreed. But here’s something to make you sick: Blues did not trail at halftime in any of their 38 EPL matches. That’s a new record. How many damn leads did we choke away. Of well.

Let’s get the damn sale finalized and start making moves.

Looks like we are losing Azpi, Christiansen, Alonzo and of course, Rudi.

Our back line had issues.

Still, despite an absolute shite show off of the pitch, TT still got this team to two finals, and won some silverware to boot.

That is a solid season considering things.

One man went to mow

One of the songs that occasionally echoes round the bridge is the Children's nursery rhyme "One Man Went to Mow". It's been sung at the pub before and during games for as long as I've been a fan. I asked my Dad what the origin of it was and I thought the origin story was worth sharing.

On an away day to Sweden the Chelsea faithful were on a coach, probably pissed, trundling up north through continental Europe, not a fry up for hundred miles, and wanted to listen to some music. Bearing in mind this is the 1981, they began searching through their bags coach in search of a cassette to save them from anymore French radio. After exhausting all other options the top boy produces a cassette of kids songs that was buried at the bottom of his bag. On the cassette went and for the next 12 or so hours the lads listened to the songs over and over again, singing along, presumably because it made it more bearable than not singing along. By the time they got to Sweeden they had developed a terrace worthy version of One man went to mow sung it at the game, brought it home, let it brew in the pub pre game for a while before it made it to The Bridge and the rest, as they say, is history.

Just thought it was quite an interesting story about an odd but of Chelsea history.

quote:

Another terrace favorite of today was started by Mick Greenaway, with Ten Men Went to Mow being created on a pre-season tour of Sweden. Chelsea fan Garry Jones explains the origins of the song...

'In 1981 he took a childrens tape on the pre-season tour of Sweden. On that tape he played 'one man went to mow'. What is extraordinary is that outside of childrens radio this song had never been heard. It was not a football song. We sung it in Sweden when we heard him playing it. It became a bit of a laugh. Most of us on the tour met up again, three days after returning home, for Chelsea's pre-season friendly against Exeter. We sung 'one man went to mow' for a bit of a joke. From there it went to the pubs outside the ground, The Swan, The SBA and the Britannia. And then into the grounds, at first at away games, and by the end of the 81/82 season 'Greenaway's' song was heard at home games. Just think, 60,000 Chelsea singing that song at the cup final of 97 - And all because of Mick Greenaway.'

Mickey Greenaway is probably the most famous Chelsea supporter.

He was born in 1945 and raised in Billing Street, a shout away from Stamford Bridge. His adoptive father was a Chelsea fan and managed to get a young Mickey mascot for a match in the glorious 1954-55 season.

Together with a few other like minded supporters, he got the Chelsea fans to meet and sing under the old corrugated steel roof shelter at the Fulham Road End, in an effort to help focus and amplify their songs and Chelsea chants.

They decided to name this construction “The Shed” and one of Mick’s colleagues had a letter published in the Chelsea programme to this effect.

Mickey introduced many songs including “One Man Went to Mow” to the Bridge supporters repertoire, but will always be remembered for his “Zigger Zagger”.

Sadly, following serious health problems, Mickey prematurely passed away in 1999.

A legend.

Been in the works for two years. Hopefully a solid replacement for Rudi. First step in the back line rebuild.

Raheem Sterling? His best days are behind him and I don’t think he’s the answer either but there’s some buzz out there.

Announce anyone please. This teams needs to make deals.

Romelu Lukaku is still doing everything he possibly can to force through a return to Inter this summer, and could try and convince Chelsea to sanction a two-year loan.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert, who reported on the situation with the striker in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Lukaku has never made any secret of his desire to re-join Inter after his transfer back to the Premier League hasn’t gone according to plan, speaking openly about it since at least a bombshell interview from last December.

According to Di Marzio, the private communications from the 29-year-old to the Nerazzurri have rarely let up in the interim, and he has constantly communicated his intention to do everything he can to return.

The situation will come to a head in the next few weeks, and Di Marzio believes that the current plan of the Belgian is to try and get the Blues to open up to a two-year loan deal back to the Nerazzurri.

“Since last Christmas, Lukaku has been sending public and private messages to Inter,” he writes, “calling the directors and the coach, former teammates and the President, ready to leave a third of his salary in London, ready to do everything he can to make the impossible possible.”

Di Marzio reports that at the moment, the formula that the Belgian is trying to argue in favour of a two-year loan deal, while he also notes that as of yet the Blues have not even finished paying the €115 million transfer fee for him from last summer.
