Someone subscribing to ZonalMarking's dogma would call his performance brilliant: pinging passes out of congestion and being astute defensively.

Yeah he did his role well, but I think Wilshere does it better at the moment and offers a lot more going forward. I don't think Denilson had a misplaced pass all game. In that respect it was solid, but maybe I wanted more.

Well, today he was fantastic box-to-box, but in general he hasn't thrived as one.

Yeah maybe he's coming in to his own in the role.
Thank god we have options behind him though.

He doesn't seem to have any burst right now. Remember how he'd take on defenders, nudging the ball quickly around to find an opening and then surge to play an assist or have a shot? Where has his killer instinct gone??

Yeah that's missing from his game right now, and I have to say it must be his fitness levels. He seemed gassed at around the 70th minute mark today.

Not what I meant. Probably didn't type it out the right way, but for a guy who is known for making poor challenges he gets away card-less more than anyone. Ben Arfa, Fabregas twice today...

He got the ball both times on fab today. De jong should not receive a card every time cesc falls down. He didn't even go to ground on one of them that cesc made a meal of.

There was one he slid in and fouled Fab (pretty sure it was Fab) and gave up a FK at the edge of the left side of the box and got no ball. Easily could have been a yellow. My whole point was guys with reputations, for better or worse, generally don't get the benefit of the doubt. (Ex. CR/Robben for diving) Not saying he needs to get carded immediately or carded every game, but Fab, Denilson, and Djourou were all carded on their first fouls and De Jong committed at least one as bad as all of those and got off. Just found it odd he escapes punishment as much as he does.

My observations from today's match:

Djourou and Arshavin are both very very bad, I just can't tell which is worse. Of the two I guess Arshavin helps out the squad more, although, he ruins many chances as well.

Fabiansky didn't make too many goofy errors, he made a few, but none cost the team.

One query is, who gets to start in the attacking side once RVP returns?

They will have Wilshire, Cesc, and Song in the center. Nasri, and Walcott on the wings. RVP, and Chamakh for the strikers. In as 4-4-2 Wilshire wouldn't start, and in a 4-5-1 Chamakh wouldn't start. How will Wenger manage this?

Oh and I agree, Arsenal need more Rosicky types who aren't afraid to shoot outside the box.

one more thing, without RVP Arsenal still haven't found a penalty taker.

I didn't really mean any offense by it. Your boys played admirably down a man. Should be a good one whenever the sides play at the Emirates.

No offense taken. You know I have to defend my boy. Here's to a the next time we meet.

I'd stick with the 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 and rotate Chamakh and RVP. Maybe RVP could stay healthy for longer if he didn't play every match.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer the 4-5-1, but Chamakh and RVP both need to play 60+ minutes. So, I guess alternating them every game is good. One starts one game and leaves around 65th, then next match comes on last 25 minutes or so while the other starts.

Why not just started RvP on one of the wings and keep the 4-3-3? Put him at RW and he could cut in with his left. It isn't as if our "wingers" really play wide anyways. Our true width comes from our overlapping fullbacks. It will be interesting to see what AW does there.

What kind of squad do you think we'll throw out there for the Carling Cup? Same as against Spurs or a little younger?

It will be a fairly strong squad, with Walcott, Rosicky, Bendtner, Eboue, & Gibbs freshening our legs. I'd love to field Jay Emanuel Thomas and have a look at him.

RvP could most definitely play one of the wings, but if Arshavin's on the left, and RvP on the right, we would be playing with two inside out wingers, almost requiring both of our fullbacks to support our width. At the moment, and for most of Arsene's tenure, he's played with one inside out winger, and one same sided winger (think Pires/Ljungberg). Even now he usually plays a right footer on the right. The RB works the overlap, and combines with the right sided player to overload that side while on the other side we look to cut in to the hole and make space for the LB to swing (usually unsuccessful) crosses in.
While I agree that our true width comes from the fullbacks, our defensive balance comes from the fact that we don't need our each of our fullbacks to provide width every possession, meaning we usually have three players back, depending on the side we play through. For the sake of defensive balance, I hope we don't have to do this. I could possibly see Vela playing on the left as well if RvP appears on the right.

I'd like for us to take this competition more seriously. A mix of young and old is probably the best combination, mixing in the few first teamers that might be coming back from injury.

4-5-1

I thought we looked awesome in the 4-3-3 when we played it last year, and this hybrid 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system looks like it could work too. When we play with the five in midfield, I feel we get way too congested with everyone wanting to play through the middle.

I tend to think AA may start sitting the bench whenever RvP goes back. I see what you're saying about inside-out wingers. Not sure RvP would be as effective at LW. Its an interesting conundrum. Not one I mind us having. Chamakh may be horrible at taking shots (with his feet) but he's been amazing for us this year. Gotta find a way to play he and RvP together.

I think Bendtner, Walcott, Eboue, Diaby, Gibbs, Vela, Lansbury, Kos (if healhty), Djourou, szcezny, and maybe Eastmond, will be our XI. (Sorry that's all jumbled. On my phone...). I'd love to see Aneke get a runout.

I don't think there's any way that Arshavin starts in a few weeks with a healthy Theo and RVP. It's been a while since I've seen RVP on the wings, but I think it would free him up to be more creative. I also think Arshavin could be lethal off the bench.

Other than Barcelona, Arsenal has the best roster in the World for a 4-3-3 so I don't see any reason to go away from that even with a surplus of strikers. I could see Bendtner-Chamakh rotation at the point, because I think those two are almost interchangeable. Maybe I'm a little high on Bendtner, but he filled in nicely for RVP in the back half of last year and generated enough scoring to keep us in the race until the last few weeks.

Hi, Andrey! Well, how can I make my dad be at least a little bit like you?? Sometimes I really hate him. How can I make him quit drinking and stop behaving so rude and aggressively?? It’s not like he drinks a lot but when he does….he can get at anybody. Of course, you're not a psychologist, but answer me something...
A.A.: In my opinion, he is like me in a way

Andrey, please promise that you’ll score for the national team this time and start scoring more! I saw you scoring only twice when I watched live matches on TV. Come on, pull yourself together and start scoring goals ...
A.A.: Only 2 goals? I have to ask you to stop watching live matches with my participation, please. You’d better watch the repeats.

BOOM goes the dynamite

Hi Andrey! I just wanted to ask, if your daughter decided that her dream was to play professional football, would you encourage/support her in this?
