Arsenal ‘too far’ from Aouar’s value says Jean-Michel Aulas.
It begins.

Memories of the Lacazette summer flashing back right now.
It’s definitely going to be an interesting next week and a half.

I remember when I interviewed Dick Law, he said the Lacazette deal was one he was most proud of because of just how difficult it was to negotiate with Aulas. One thing that could help in Arsenal’s favour this time around, however, is the relationship between Edu and Juninho.
Seems as if it will happen, just depends on how long it takes to negotiate with Aulas.

Today’s game... woof. Arteta swung and missed with that lineup

Luiz heading it straight to Liverpool player at top of the 18 for the 3rd goal when our keep could have easily caught the swinger
2nd goal just piss poor defending...you have two arsenal players going up for the ball and neither gets a head on it and falls straight to the feet of the LV player who made a run in the box, unchecked

Did he really wiff? We were in the game 40 minutes longer than our last several trips to A field and lacazette could have, should have made it 2-2. Completely different game. And the 3rd goal is an actual handball according to the current laws.
But I do think ceballos should have started, but I can also see wanting to keep it close and keep us in the game as long as possible.
Now, Mane should have been off in the first five minutes and Bellerin played possibly his worst game. He was involved in all 3 goals and 2 foul throws. Like that deserves a lil spot in the bench.
it also shows how limited we are in the midfield.

Yeah. Xhaka and Elneny is a bad pairing. Xhaka cannot dribble for the life of him, and he put himself in some terrible situations where his only option was to dribble.
In the community shield game, our goal was to set up two triangles from which to play out the back. We want to move the ball side to side quickly to create overloads, at which point, two players who are set up on either side of the opposing DM will drop deep, and then link play to the wide players.
What pool did was they prevented the quick side to side movement of passing along the back, while also occupying passing lanes. We were too predictable in the approach, and we need to be able to adapt. Elneny and Xhaka aren't the players who can adapt, as Xhaka is only excellent at progressive passing, and Elneny is only good at moving the ball quickly out of his feet.
The way to break the press is to dribble from deep, but Cazorla is the only player we've had in a long time who I felt comfortable dribbling from deep in our own half.
We should have had a plan B, and should always have a plan B for our passing patterns. For example, kicking it long from goal kicks a couple of times, and then having a midfield player drop deep to occasionally receive the ball would effectively move the "double triangle" system up the field where we would have more space to move the ball backwards quickly.
I would argue he wiffed, because we used the double triangle system against Pool in the community shield. We should have expected them to counter-act it. We didn't. We lost in a game that should have been more lopsided than it was.

We don't have midfielders to break the press and arour doesn't necessarily help us in that game because it would just be he and elneny or he and xhaka in that set up. Elneny and xhaka started the community shield so I can see his reasoning behind that. Don't lose the game in the first half like we have been doing for years now away from home against top teams.
Honestly I want partey, and torreira agent is in Madrid so maybe we can still get both
But against sheffield we need to play a back four and just beat them.

Yeah, which is why not bringing on Ceballos earlier is insane. He broke the press much easier by virtue of changing his angle to the passer with good horizontal movement. Aouar will help break the press because he is a better dribbler than any of our other midfielders. I also would have brought Pepe on much earlier too and had him occupy the half-spaces to give a closer target after breaking the first line of the press.
I really think the first half made it clear they understood what Arsenal was trying to do, and it required a change in approach. We were incredibly sloppy in possession even in the second half, but there were chances to move through Pool once Ceballos came on.

Finally starting to move players on. Hopefully this helps us get the Aouar deal over the line.

The deal for Sead Kolasinac to Bayer Leverkusen will be completed on next 48 hours. €11m + add ons to Arsenal, confirmed. #AFC want a permanent deal also for Lucas Torreira to Atlético Madrid. Meeting tomorrow too between intermediary and Atléti.

That’s damn good business and gets rid of his 100k per week salary. If we can move Sokratis, Torreira, and possibly Mustafi we may be able to afford Partey as well.

Looks like Torreira going on loan to Atletico with an option to buy.

I don't belive the Kolasinac news because he's starting this match
Some pretty strong lineups by both clubs

Arsenal really need a better right back. We've seen Bellerin not perform very well to start this season, and his last couple, add to that Cedric not looking very good this match.
I really like Ceballos' work rate, and his vision, but he is not quite there on his final ball. He has the right idea, but just can't hit it accurately enough, or find the right pace. It is very close, but if only he could deliver that ball it would really open things up for the attack.

Leno putting on a clinic today to remind everyone why he is still the Arsenal #1.
