Tennessee last won the East in 2007. With the right hire, UT can return to what they use to be annually contending for the SEC Championship. Pruitt seems like a good hire and hopefully will be given some time to turn the program around. Just curious what Vols fans are expecting in year one? When will expectations start to really ramp up?

I'm not so sure this is a true statement. UTk may never win an SEC game again.

Nobody can answer this question right now. Any time you hire an assistant coach to run a big time program without prior experience you take a really big risk. Right now I think if given time he will compete for the east within a few years.

Pruitt will make sure the defense is in position to succeed. He knows defense as well as any coach in America. He has worked for three successful coaches and saw how to run a program. He can recruit with the best of them and he is motivated.

He is so hard core that he came close to whipping the arse of Mark Richt for being to soft. So yeah, it was a risky hire but he is the assistant I would have hired especially given the state of the program right now. It will be hard to compete with Kirby but I wouldn't count Pruitt out.

Let's let them try to win an SEC game before we worry about glory.

That's not part of Phat Phil's master plan.

I just read UTK has an overall losing record in SEC games since they won the national championship.

He will have them competitive in the east just in time for momma to come calling. Dabo may be the better coach right now but I like Pruitt's schtick and his story. Was a elementary teacher just 12 years ago.

Hiring a NS assistant seems to be working well right now for many. JP's jury still out but I wont bet against him

this is insane. Not just won the SEC (hey everyone goes through some droughts)...won the EAST. Of all the big 6 members, 10 years is the longest drought (UGA from SECCG inception in '92 ending in 2001, and UT from 2008 season to 2017 season).

If UT doesn't win the division this year they will set the new record for time between division appearances within the big 6.

Probably not. I like UT, but don't think Pruitt has the temperament to be a HC at a program like that.

It's a tossup. Dantonio is the only sure fire good hire. Jimbo may be a good hire. Kirby probably is a good hire. Muschamp is probably a good hire, Garret is an OK hire, Gase?, Then you have Derek Dooley, McElwain, Muschamp at UF.

IMO, JP has a chance to be really good. UT's home state recruiting has silently improved dramatically. He's talented, but who knows with an asst at a P5 school, especially in the SEC. He was a great DC, talent evaluator and recuiter, better than KS; but while HC and DC have similarities, they have more differences. Plus, even though the state of Tenn talent is much better than the past and improving mostly because of Nashville, it's not close to the state of Georgia and the Atlanta area.
