It’s good because tariffs show how vulnerable the US is to potentially hostile suppliers.
I’m watching FBN this afternoon and Liz Clayman is talking with the CEO of a small electronics manufacturing company and he’s telling Liz how the tariffs are impacting his supply of IC’s/electronic components.

What that story tells me is the US is vulnerable if we’re depending on any country for critical electronic components. I’m sure we have some inventory for critical replacement parts but we need to manufacture our own IC’s. We will face serious lag times if we have to gear up production because we’re at odds with China or any other country who presently supplies domestic US companies with high tech electronic components.

Because you lack a basic understanding of economics.

I watched that as well and what really ticked me off is the guy said himself that something needed to be done about trade and ip theft with China, then proceeded to whine and cry about how it's impacting his business.

Liz Clayman seems to be all China trade all the time and it gets tiring. She can't see past next week apparently. But then that is likely a lot of their viewers. fricking day traders.

I want to respond but I fear your mental capacity is lacking and you wouldn’t understand National security over international trade. Lol!

Making more of our product in this country would supply more jobs and help prevent climate change. But yet the climate change party wants to raise taxes on business in the US so they all go over seas.

The new tariffs are not supporting US capitalism. It is more of a socialist policy.

It may show where we are vulnerable, but it also does not allow businesses to buy and sell products goods at the best price. That is not the US type of capitalized.

Taking it in the arse has not been US capitalism until the past 30 years or so.

Right now it’s about national security, foreign trade is dangerous if you’re foolishly sacrificing national security for the quick buck.

There are indirect benefits to employing Americans and being self sufficient and not reliant on other countries for goods and services, especially countries who are not otherwise allies with us.

Tariffs are an attempt by our gov't to force consumers into a domestic product. If China stopped making consumer electronics tomorrow, do you really believe that an American manufacture wouldn't spring up to fill that void?

I'm amazed constantly here at the "Republicans" on this board. They are for gov't control of the economy when it comes to trade deals and can't wait to spend billions on a wall and trillions on some roads........

Hi moron!

This is t about economics. This is about the USA vs China.

Our economy is fine and we will secure other trade partners to take the slack

Some times it is.

This is not that time.

We would... could and should. We would also do what we are doing now..... working with other trade partners

All but 1 is a lie.

The 1 being the wall. That actually saves the USA money.

Of course the US would gear up for production if we lost s foreign supplier of critical items but it takes time. You don’t follow the news do you? In case you missed it Huawei (Chinese electronic manufacturer) has designed and embedded eavesdropping/data collection/SPYING capabilities in some of their integrated circuits, particularly the next generation of chip sets used for 5G wireless. If you’re an American citizen who loves the sovereignty of this country that should concern you. Comprende?
