Fine. Go ahead and sell it. Do you really think the incarceration rate will go down significantly if all drugs are legalized?

Absolutely, and that's what's really preventing it from going down. A lot of people's jobs rely on people being locked up.

You my friend, will be crucified in this board, but what you say is the truth nevertheless.

I really believe in individual freedom
At what point does individual freedom go too far; sell/use drugs, steal, drive 100 mph through a school zone, cheat on tests, drive away from the gas pumps without paying? Why the hard on for drugs to be legalized, seriously?

Don't know the answer but it doesn't matter. The legalization of heroine will never happen

I think heroin should be legal for doctors to prescribe to terminal patients once morphine is no longer easing their pain.

Probably a good portion of that is a product of the black market.

I disagree. Addicts couldn't give two shits if they get their drugs legally or illegally. They will steal to feed their habit regardless.

I don't think so. It is hard for me to make a direct correlation between the two concepts.

Addicts commit crimes to feed their habit. More addicts, more crime.

If the individual freedom tresspasses certain limits, it wil be deal with, case by case.

You do not need the "state" doing that work for you!

Unless of course you are a coward.

No. People that want to abuse hard drugs will get them regardless of legality.

Yes, exactly. I've been there. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Not exactly.

Newsflash: You're not the only one who travels.

Yes, I've been there too, and actually talked to junkies. Most of the ones I talked to weren't Dutch. The lax restrictions on the market intiated by the Dutch didn't create the market - or even increase demand - it simply provided a legal market for all of Europe to flock to. This also occurred in Switzerland before The Netherlands. If all Europen Union members dropped the legal restructions on narcotics simultaneously, they may not see much of a difference in use.

But then, the focus in this thread is on America. Case in point: Colorado. It suddenly looks like demand for weed has spiked in the Colorado weed market. However, much of the demand is coming from out of stat where weed laws are still in effect. If weed were legalized across the US, you wouldn't see these apparent spikes of demand in limited geographic areas.

It's very similar to gun laws. If they make handguns illegal in Chicago, people will simply go to a legal market in, say, Indiana to satisfy theiir market demand. If they make handguns illgeal in NYC, people will just cross the Hudson to New Jersey to obtain their handguns. It makes it look like deamdn is higher, but in reality it only appears so due to the restrictions on the market.

you don't have to convince me of that. People rob houses and kill each other over things that are perfectly legal to possess. Legalization is no magic bullet.

I do believe that a great deal of the crime and violence around the drug economy is due to its criminal nature. Opening the market would theoretically decrease the intense criminal nature of the competition, probably lower prices too

I think the majority of the addict population is probably already represented. The problem is that in an attempt to corral these people we are criminalizing a large swath of our country.

Very similar to Alabama's lottery situation with Florida and Georgia.
