Here is your fallacy.

They are counting “drug deaths ” as all deaths caused by he drugs, the cartels, drug pushers shooting each other etc. etc.

The problem is deaths by drugs will skyrocket while death by drug turf battles will drop.

But the crooks selling drugs will just move to another criminal enterprise once the dope becomes legal.

All your studies means not shyt.

More access to dope means more dope deaths.

Try hanging dope dealers withing 6 months, I BET THAT'LL SHUT THE SYT DOWN.

Drug deaths and homicides are different stats.

Someone in your family has sold drugs, you just don't know it.

Yes, because there ar no drugs in the middle east or south east asia, where they have the death penalty for drugs.

Like what?

I always see that answer, what else will make the money dope does?
Nothing.

Majority of dealers work a real job, and drug dealing is a crime of opportunity, and may be to support their use. There are few crimes of opportunity that come close to dealing.

WASHINGTON — Researchers at the RAND Corp., knocking down some of the most glib tenets of the mythology of narcotics, reported Tuesday that the typical Washington drug peddler is already employed in a legitimate full-time job and sells drugs to supplement his or her income.

The research, based on a survey of 11,430 Washingtonians charged with street-level drug dealing and extensive interviews with 186 others on probation, contradicted the long-held assumptions that it is the impoverished unemployed who are sucked into the street trade in hopes of earning as much as a thousand dollars a day.

In 2002, 28% of all hospital admissions for the elderly were far pharmaceutical overdoses, costing 20 billion dollars.

I can't find the link to that study. It was in an old paper I had published....but it is tremendous how the culture of narcotics affects our culture and budget.

I've dealt drugs while going to school and working two jobs.

The vast majority of dealers that I know work (offhand I can honestly say that 8 out of 10 dealers I know work).

What makes you think it's any different? Just the made up images in your head?

“Nancy Botwin” is a suburban mom-turned-neighborhood pot dealer in the hit show “Weeds.”

Sound like fiction?

Hardly. It’s art imitating life.

Drug dealers these days are far from the stereotypes of blinged-out urban kids and long-haired dirtbags.

Sure, some dealers still fit those profiles, but there are also moms, teachers, construction workers, city workers, professional athletes and students who are dealing, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Small Time, Part Time

“Most of the people we encounter have a regular job of some kind,” says Jonathan F. Marshall, a marijuana-defense attorney in New Jersey. His clients include web designers, public-works employees and landscape-design engineers.

Interesting. are there any other hard drugs that consistently take people out like heroin?

If they are done intraveneously - yes. Once you've banged, its too late. If you're snorting you take your total dose in many small increments, so if its way stronger stuff than you're used to, you'll notice.

I dunno maybe because my job is as an undercover narcotics agent that buys drugs for a living.

If the majority of drug dealers work they must have a shite load of days off.

This would reinforce a lot of negative stereotypes about cops, for sure.

They do. I've posted two links. It's fairly common knowledge, and would think most folks understood this.

Absolutely the majority of drug dealers work. Most of them are just trying to fund their drug habits.

Though the majority of drugs dealt are probably done by people who don't have day jobs - most dealers are nickle and dimer small timers. One guy sells 100 lbs of dope to 10 guys - who take their 10 lbs each and dole them out to small time dealers who work actual jobs during the day. Most of the quantity moved is done by people without jobs - but most of the people doing the moving have jobs.
