CIA Director Gina Haspel lamented how the Justice Department's review of the Russia investigation would be a "nightmare" for her agency, according to veteran journalist Bob Woodward's new book.

Haspel and then-Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats made an appointment with Attorney General William Barr after he announced the investigation in May 2019, which would look, in part, into alleged spying into President Trump's 2016 campaign, possibly by law enforcement and intelligence agency officials.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, Woodward wrote in Rage, "had already torn inconclusively through the intelligence agencies, they said. Why did this need to be done? It will be very disruptive to the agencies." Barr told the pair there was more out there that had not been investigated in the review that was being taken up by U.S. Attorney John Durham.

Haspel said such an investigation would have a negative effect on morale at the CIA, and some of her people were wondering if they needed to get an attorney, Woodward wrote.

"I hope you can do this in a way that it's not going to cause a lot of problems," Haspel said, according to the book. "And can we stay informed in terms of what you plan to do and make sure we know what's happening?"

Barr told them not to worry and that he would keep them apprised of any developments. "Your people won't need to be concerned," he said.

"Don't worry, don't worry," Barr added. "This is not a witch hunt. There's more out there and we just need to know what it is."

I am 54 years old. I’ve never needed an attorney. Of course, I never partook in an overthrow of a duly elected president.

Oh well.

Burn it all down and give the CIA's responsibilities to MILINT. Clearly they can't be trusted to do their job as civilians

Just think, Barr has had this case since May 2019. It is now Sept 2020 (or 1.5 years later) and still nothing has been done.

But you know what? Tons of Obama's agencies were in on the scam and implemented said scam in less time.

I don't give a frick. Burn them down. They need to keep their dirty fingers and minds out of American politics unless it is to stop communist anti-Constitution fricks, but alas, they are supporting that type.

It is going to be tough to review what the CIA had or didn’t have at their disposal and give an accurate accounting of that to the American people.

I expect a lot of redactions if there actually is a Durham Report.

And if Brennan is indicted and has to defend himself with non-public info he had at his disposal, is that portion of the trial going to have to be sealed?

Will that satisfy the American public? I don’t think it will for a large portion of folks.

Maybe the CIA should shop conducting operations inside the US.

If anyone broke the law I want them in jail.

Republican
Democrat
Politician
Military
Under Obama Administration
Under Trump Administration
Retired government workers

ANY OF THESE people, if they broke the law, should have a heavy hand dealt to them. That is the only way to keep the next generation from doing the same (or worse) shite.

Why is a US Attorney investigating the decisions and analysis of intelligence analysts? If Durham is doing little more than second guessing the decisions they made then I don’t think I’ll have much interest in any report he puts out.
