My white ancestors picked cotton as young as 5 years old, until their hands bled. One was killed in a cotton trailer accident as a 7 year old.

I picked cotton at around 4 years old. I also helped to pick up (rake) pecans, and pickEd poke salad on the side of the road. Additionally, I had the added benefit of eating powdered eggs (the eggs from the chickens that we had were sold) and drinking powdered milk. Good times.

The commentator in the video made a good point. The constant reminding of slavery is essentially a form of mind control. Constantly telling blacks, "Your ancestors were slaves" is subtly telling them, "You're a slave, and the white people are to blame."

My..white.. grandmother picked cotton until her fingers didn’t work anymore as a kid. People are so ignorant.
