What’s to stop red states from splitting in half? North, South, East, and West Dakota. Alabama and Lower Alabama. Why not play their little games against them?

Why stop there? Why not push for statehood for Guam, Marianas Islands, American Samoa and Virgin Islands? That makes 56...I'm missing one somewhere since i know there are 57 states.

Texas has the right to split into five states ....

Some need to read the ratification of Texas and why that possibility exists today.

OMG post of the day award. I like the idea but normally the Republicans don't try to find ways to rig the system. That's why we are so behind in politics. We need to step up our game by doing things like that. Have an upvote.

Actually you can, but it isn't easy. It would require a vote of the state legislatures concerned and the Congress.

Dems have shown that they are not overly concerned with our Constitution and traditions. That is why they seek to pack the court, admit new states, end the filibuster, end the Electoral College, get rid of equal representation in the Senate, and do away with election integrity. That is also why they attack the 1st Amendment and the 2nd. Etc. etc. etc.

The US Constitution also provided for a Federal District that shall not be part of any state. You don't think something as trivial as the Constitution is going to impede the Dems' power grab? The land for DC was donated by Virginia and Maryland. If the residents of DC want Senate and House representation, then the right thing to do is give the residential parts of DC back to the states that donated the land and only a small section of land that holds federal offices be allowed to remain as the Federal district. The Dems would never go along with that though. They want permanent, unilateral power, period.

The fact that this 8th grade Civics lesson even needs to be written is kind of sad, isn't it?

If the real issue was those poor folks without their representation, they could easily gain that by sliding back into either Virginia or Maryland, but given the political makeup of both, that would not help the Democrat plans for gaining two new and PERMANANT Democrat Senators.

As with most issues, the reason given (helping some poor under represented person) is not the real reason (raw power.)

The idea that a 60 square mile area should be a state is the most asinine power grabs ever. The smallest state currently is like 1500 square miles

It's hilarious watching them argue that they actually care about the people of DC not having representation in congress

You're not doing this right. D.C. needs to expand its territory, acquiring Prince George and Montgomery County MD, as well as Fairfax and Arlington Counties, VA and the independent city of Alexandria. Washington would remain its capital, and the population of the district would increase to about 5 million giving it maybe 7 representatives in addition to two senators.

That's how D.C. becomes the 51st state.
