Seriously, as an actual fiscal conservative our debt is what keeps me up at night. I can think of no bigger assurance of our downfall if we don’t have the political will to get this under control. I’m withholding my opinion on Trump for now, waiting to see if he can get something real accomplished. Thus far he’s mostly torn things down but has yet to really build much. Tax cuts are great but in my opinion are misguided without matching spending cuts. In this economy, there is no excuse for this kind of financial mismanagement. As a reminder, we had four consecutive years of surplus until 911/Bush so this is possible. Do any politicians care about this anymore? Will Trump the bussiness man ever emphasize a smart budget? Or are he and his base more worried about the appearance of winning than something unsexy like balancing the budget? I fear it’s very clearly the former.

Maybe once the swamp is drained.

Too many people selling $5000 toilet seats to the military also own Congresscritters.

Balancing the budget is essential. We, the people, must demand it.

That ship has sailed, pork means getting reelected, getting reelected leads to power, power leads to personal gain.

How many Americans are in debt up to their eyeballs? They don't really care about too much debt, do they?

Jug Ears purposefully doubled the debt in 8 years with pretty much nothing to show for it, except for enriching his friends.

If we have another stock and housing bubble at the same time conservatives lead a campaign for it, maybe..

Probably not.

There’s two items that Trump could start hammering on that would validate his pledge to “drain the swamp”.

Number 1: congressional term limits and strict lobby reform.

Number 2: A meaningful push for fiscal responsibility at the federal level.

The most puzzling aspect concerning our current fractional reserve banking system is how esoteric it is.

99.99999% of Americans are completely ignorant of how fractional reserve banking functions and the inherent nature of how it benefits the pigs (Banks/Financial institutions) who are 1st to feed at the money trough. There has to be a better system that would eliminate/reduce the for profit greed that the modern day money changers fight over.

Ready for the down votes from the people who work in the banking/financial sector. Lol!

Why does everyone always deflect on here? This thread isn’t about Bush, it’s about the path forward under Trump and his successors.

You know very well who Jug Ears is. Only one Pres. added 10 trillion to the national debt during his tenure.

I don't understand this. If Tax cuts result in more $$ flowing in to the treasury, why are they misguided even with no spending cuts if your goal is a balanced budget and/or a pay-down of the national debt?

Now, don't get me wrong, if it were up to me I'd be slashing spending all over the place, but it's not a 1 to 1 correlation between tax cuts and deficits/debt.

Honestly? Not a chance in Hell. Both sides are firmly committed to spending money they do not have in order to stay in power.

Paul Ryan is one of the few who tried to tackle it, but it was too much political suicide.

The biggest problem is Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security/disability. In a couple years that plus servicing our debt will match revenues. Even if we did away with the military and those toilet seats, we would still be accumulating debt.

Only when we destroy the Fed Reserve and start printing our own money. Until then, we will always be paying debt to our international banker overlords.

Please go peddle this falsehood somewhere else. There were no surpluses, because the debt went up every year of the Clinton (and every other Presidency, for that matter, since Nixon) administration - there was a "on paper" balance for a brief period in 1998, but, still, mythical because if we had a surplus, why did we have to borrow more money?

So, the bipartisan efforts of Clinton and Gingrich almost balanced the budget, but there has been no real surplus since Nixon.

Period.

I’ll tell ya what Obammy did, whatever the frick the Federal Reserve/Global Banking cabal told him..., basically to shut his yapper!

If any of you woke fricks learned anything over the past 10 years is where the true power resides. Forget about the dog and pony political show that plays out daily for our viewing and listening pleasure, the real power lies with the folks who control the money supply. It’s that simple.
