(1) Working class Americans who vote and the middle class are anti-tax and pro-job creation. Guess which party shares that agenda. Dems are pro-tax and worse pro-redistribution of wealth rather than pro-production of wealth.

(2) Republicans have a very specific message. Prosperity, borders and security through a strong military. Dems are currently running on the hatred of an individual who they alternatively fear and despise. And oh, they vote for the most extreme of the extreme, bar maids who probably don't know where D.C. is much less who Thomas Jefferson was. But Ocasio-Cortez is quick to promise everyone a guaranteed government job which indicates a check with little to no work. And the removal of border security and the threat of ever being deported (no ICE) so she can immigrate maybe a half billion South and Central Americans and others to fill those guaranteed government jobs. And her presumed running mate, Bernie Sanders will give them all the other free stuff their hearts desire. And foreign policy is just that to most Dems, foreign, or weak as in the last left wing president demonstrated.

(3) Republicans have mostly let the people decide primaries which leads to responsible candidates for the most part. While Dems are controlled by their extreme fringe who love to caucus and to hell with the people since most reasonable folks have jobs and many of the committed fringe don't so they attend caucuses in big numbers. Hillary stacked the deck with her right hand gal running the party (Wassermann-Shultz) but she was threatened by and almost got ran down by the lunatic left and their caucuses. Sanders won 10 of 13. And Obama did the same in '08. The Dems hardcore extreme voters have recently ran the 4th fourth ranking Dem house member to embrace the little street gal with no freaking clue. Then didn't endorse the leader of the Senate Democrats, Feinstein in favor of a Hispanic radical who got 12% of the votes in the Dem primary. He is big on open borders.

I guess anything could happen between now and 2020 but right now you'd have to say Dems are suicidal and self sabotaging at an impressive fashion.
