Tested for the virus, or tested for antibodies?

When you say "had no symptoms", are you referring to COVID symptoms or symptoms of anything at all.

I know a few people that every time they feel a little "off" they think they have COVID. And, while they have yet to admit it, I'm sure some have gone to get the test a few times. And by little off, sinus pressure, itchy/dry throat, lethargic all day...

In their case, this is all hypochondria due to media hype.

Maybe if a person knows he’s been exposed recently and is planning on being near an elderly/immunocompromised family member in the near future?

In BR they had those big sites set up for drive through testing with the state and EBR were begging people to go get them. It was part of a federally funded study on community spread or something to that effect.

What does it matter if people without symptoms go and get them?

Because someone they came in contact with tested positive. It’s hard to tell if one is pre-symptomatic (potentially contagious), asymptomatic (most likely not contagious), positive for antibodies (immune), or not infected. The first two typically require one to quarantine, the latter two do not:

Yep. I had been exposed to someone who had it and was planning on visiting my folks who are at risk. Got tested and I have it and decided to not visit folks.

Media-induced mass hysteria

This 100%

My wife went to the Dr 8 days ago because of text book sinus infection symptoms (She gets 1-2 of these every damn year and she’s still convinced that’s all it was this time) and they tested her for Covid 19. Got the results back 5 days ago saying Covid 19 positive. So my employer required me to get tested even though I’ve had zero symptoms. Got my results this morning and I tested negative.

We’ve been cooped up in the house together for over a week and as I’ve thought all along this whole Covid thing is just a bunch of bullshite. I can’t help but laugh at all the stupid arse sheep wearing masks when I see them, idiots

It’s a waste of money and resources but more importantly it can make this problem seem bigger than it is

Do you really need it spelled it for you?

If so, here goes --

In the early stages of this virus, and during the initial lockdowns, the media incessantly pounded the drum regarding the need for more testing, so as to allow for us to safely reopen. Testing, testing, testing, testing, testing. We can't reopen safely without an exponential increase in testing capacity.

As the availability of testing quickly grew, we reopened. And with that reopening, came an insistence on contact tracing. So, now we are alerting otherwise asymptomatic people, that they MIGHT have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, while not being able to identify who that person is. These otherwise asymptomatic people are being encouraged to get a test, if they feel the need to do so. Many are scared that they MAY have it and unknowingly give it to someone else. So, they do what they think is the morally correct thing to do and go get a test. These are people who without getting a phone call would have no reason to even consider getting a test.

At the same time, many employers are insisting that any employee who exhibits any symptoms, mild or otherwise, must go get a test before being cleared to work, so as to hopefully keep their businesses from getting sued.

It seems obvious to me that, given the above examples, we are artificially driving the demand for testing way, way up, as countless numbers of people who otherwise would have no use or reason for getting a test are being encouraged/forced to do so. Because after all, it's a simple math equation -- the more testing that is done, the more positives that will be found.

So, as we artificially drive testing way up, we also artificially drive the number of positive cases up. Also, we need to consider the anecdotal reports of false positives and even untested positives. Is it any wonder that this new and sudden "spike" in cases is very fishy? This huge spike in mild and asymptomatic cases is borne out by the fact that the death rate continues to go down. Imagine if we did this for the flu, common cold, etc. What would those infection rates look like?

So now that cases are way up, the JBEs of the world get to turn around and use them as justification for further restrictions and lecture us on how we haven't been good citizens and properly followed his orders.

Can you not see how this becomes one giant circular equation, which leads directly to the desired outcome -- more restrictions, less economic activity, and most importantly, more federal dollars to help plug the massive hole in the state budget?

It's a long story, but my youngest daughter thinks/thought I was out in public too much, even though we're in phase 2 and I took precautions, so I took the test to prove that I was negative. Tested on Sunday, July 12, received my negative result on Friday, July 17.

StepDaughter felt sick at work, left...tested, came back negative. Went to the beach a week later...woozy...tested positive. Cooking chicken soup.

Punch line. You can test N one day and P the next week. It's a race for a vaccine that'll be half effective. And then, the next one arrives, from our 'cold war' Enemy in the East.
