Why shouldn’t felons have rights restored after release from prison?

Let a few paroled murders and rapists do their transitional living in your house for a decade and then get back to us on that.

Seems some will say no. Others will say yes.

I believe they have. At the very least when they make it off parole.

Yeah, I don't get punishing them for life.

What if your felony was tax evasion? You still can't own a gun? What's the correlation?

That's putting gun rights as a mere privilege for a select few and not a Constitutional right.

Maybe they should. Maybe it depends on the crime, it’s severity and the amount of offenses. Start a conversation. Speak your truth. Tell us about the pokey.

Depends on the felon depends on the right.

I think They should be able to vote

Should violent felons get their 2nd amendment rights back? Probably not.

You can get your rights restored under certain circumstances.

I support sentencing reform for non-violent offenders

Some people get felonies because they were given powerful pain pills for too long. Taken off abruptly due to govt crack down. Then get caught with drugs they arent supposed to have. Is creating a legal addict, then cutting him loose to only be an illegal addict reason to be a felon for life? In the same vein as a murder or rapist????

Depends on the crime....some crimes they should and some they shouldn't.

Let each state decide.

But why are they back in society if they pose a danger?

Seems an awful lot of cherry picking to me. Either they have paid back their debt to "society" or not.

I would argue after their parole or whatever is done after serving time, yes yes it is. For all the bluster, people love taking away others' rights.

Because it’s not about “paying a debt” (which you were likely forced to “pay” anyway by getting caught). It’s about proving yourself to be a responsible, productive member of society. If you’re a felon, your track record isn’t all that great in that department.

They should 100% have all of their rights restored. We should just rethink sentencing for violent offenders.

I don't think it should be carte blanche, but depending on the crime and the right, maybe any restriction after the prison term should be included in the sentence.

For instance someone convicted of manslaughter may serve 15 years and also lose the right to own a firearm thereafter. Someone convicted of possession of coke might not have that restriction.
