Why not pass legislation that automatically raises minimum wage to inflation every 5 year?

The big meme right now is We HaVeNt RaiSeD MiN wAgE fOr 10 yEaRs.

Why raise it now just to have to have this fight again?

Seems like passing legislation to automatically adjust it every 5 years based off the value of the dollar would solve the issue permanently.

Oh I forgot, politicians don’t like to solve issues permanently

Not necessary. The market determines the minimum wage

No need for a minimum wage law at all.

Because having a minimum wage hurts an economy and is a stupid thing to do, period.

- It makes it illegal to hire a low skilled worker to do a job that is worth less than minimum wage.

- It will increase unemployment or the price of goods/services will go up, or both.

Why not let business owners offer what they are willing to pay for a position and potential employees decide if the are willing to work for that amount or not?

That world is the only one that does exist. No matter what legislation is passed, the minimum wage will always be $0.

You’re answering your own question (maybe it was rhetorical?).

It’s apparently more fun as an occasional political football. That’s all the Democrats ever want.

Why are people satisfied working “minimum wage” jobs? They’re not intended to be careers.

Are you 12 years old?

1. Business owners are in competition for talent. When you set artificial floors on pay it hurts the consumer in higher cost (tax on the poor) and the more valuable employees’ earning potential.
2. Incentivizes employers to hire less people.
3. Incentivizes employers to automate at a higher rate.

Are you able to comprehend these basic principles?

It’s sort of a problem in trying to argue the best “strategy” of socialism with people who abhor socialism. I could give a shite about the “best” way to do that. It’s a weird thing to be smug about.

If someone is willing to work for $3 / hr to do a job. I say let them and we should allow this.

Maybe I am out of touch, but what jobs pay minimum wage. I ride down the strip and several fast food restaurants advertise $11/per hour. Family goes out to eat, spend about an hour, the tip is never below $10.(that's for 1 table). I know some entry level construction jobs pay near minimum for about a week until they know you will work. My son makes $8 bagging groceries part time in high school.
Sounds like the market is setting it.

There will always be a segment of society that will be low-skilled workers. Some are content to be losers, some don't have the capability, and some are working their way up the 'skill ladder'. Providing minimum wage to the losers is inappropriate welfare, providing it to those without the ability is justified (compassionate) welfare, and providing it those working hard to move up is justified if they come from a background where not providing it would prove too onerous to succeed. The problem is that we lack the transparency and resolution of information to treat these groups differently.
