The Trump administration is coming to the aid of farmers hurt by its own hard-line trade policies, announcing Tuesday that it will make an estimated $12 billion in government assistance available, including direct payments to growers.

The money comes after farmers, especially soybean growers, have felt the brunt of retaliatory tariffs placed on agriculture by China and other nations that the Trump administration has penalized with tariffs on imports.

So we're on the hook for more handouts while also getting the shaft at rhe store. Thanks Trump!

Because he knows it’s temporary.

One of the less self-aware statements made by Tug Job.

I'm against this as well.

He's doing exactly what he bitched about China doing - having the govt subsidize the market for a political goal.

I bet you don't have any problem with billions in welfare going to the damn illegals and loafers who set on their arse and draw checks. At least the farmers are producers and they actually contribute to society. I would rather see it go to them than the worthless non producing members of society.

This is a subsidy. Welfare is when someone is sitting on their fat lazy arse getting free money and food. This is a one year deal to help hard working, salt of the earth people get by during a year of temporary tumultuous market prices. Things will level out. Quit your fricking sky screaming. He hasn't DOUBLED our historic national debt in 8 years, has he?

There is much more at stake than 12 billion dollars, but I’m sure you know that. Our trade deficit with China last year was 375 BILLION dollars.

Getting China to bend the knee on trade is worth much much more than 12 billion dollars.
