Why is the debt ceiling the hill the GOP wants to fight on?
Posted by LSUFanHouston on 9/28/21 at 9:51 am535
Turtle says they rejected the combo short term funding bill / debt ceiling increase because the two issues were linked. Turtle seems fine approving a stand alone short term funding bill.
Turtle has already overseen the approval of the "infrastructure" bill.
The GOP has been masters of deficit spending for years.
I don't understand Turtle and his group. They are a-ok with massive spending, deficit spending, but don't want to raise the revenue for it and don't want to raise the debt ceiling to fund it.
Why is this the path they choose? Why not be against the deficit spending from the start, and then you don't have to worry about the debt ceiling?

They don’t want the blame for the Dems shoving several trillion more in debt through.

Games being played. Nothing more. Democrats want all or nothing, and turtle is willing to call their bluff.

The big infrastructure plan has been enacted. This is the debt service on the Trump debt.

Money is fungible.
There would have been money to service debt if roughly 51 assholes in the Senate and 217+ assholes in the House hadn’t just voted for trillions in new spending.
And if that spending is separate from the debt servicing, how can we afford all that new spending they are passing?

the Trump debt.
Trump, who introduced in the most incredible, across-the-board economy which worked for everyone and yet was hit with a laboratory made , partially NIH funded virus which coincidentally was released exactly one year before the 2020 election?

The democrats have 5.5 Trillion on the table AFTER the debt increase. They aren't only asking for a debt increase.

They have to maintain their RINO small government illusion.

They want the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling on their own so the RNC can campaign on it in the midterms.

They won't die on it. They're just pretending to put up a fight so their staunch supporters will cheer. Gop doesn't do shite.

Group R and Group D have a 50/50 split in Senate and D controls ONLY by a tie- Break
Group D has the slimmest majority in the House
Group D tells Group R “ frick you. We will fundamentally change EVERYTHING from voting laws to spending. We might even pack the SCOTUS and kill filibuster rules. Oh, and we don’t even want your opinion on any of this. “
Also Group D “ oh shite. We have to do something that stinks first. Why are y’all not helping us?”
frick Group D with Hillary’s dick.

This is the sad truth. It's nothing more than gaming the political landscape

But, there is no way in hell Republicans let the government shutdown carry into to late 2022. They will cave—especially with an election coming up.

That might be fine except for
1) they voted for more spenidng
2) Many times in the recent past THEY shoved through more and more debt

I think you are right. I think this is all theater and they will cave.
I just wish if they were going to have a pretend fight... they would pretend fight higher spending.

Haha. This guy actually believes the president approves spending.
Before the election, trump said he would fight the growing debt but after he got elected, he didn’t follow through.
As to spending, the President submits a budget and he can use the position to make a strong case against raising the limit if he wanted to do that.
Trump was certainly no fiscal conservative when it came to government spending though. It’s my biggest beef with him.
