Obama’s never exactly been what you’d call reticent about giving an opinion on anything, whether he was asked for one or not.

I am not necessarily saying Biden will lose, but if Obama backs Biden and he then loses, it will reflect poorly on him, much as it did when Hillary Clinton was defeated by Donald Trump. If you think of it in these terms, it makes perfect sense for Obama not to endorse any candidate at this time.

It's the norm for a former president to let the primary process play out before endorsing the nominee.
e.g. it wasn't until May 1988 that Reagan finally endorsed G.H.W. Bush. ("I'm going to work as hard as I can to make Vice President George Bush the next president of the United States").
Don't bring facts like this to the conversation. I'll rather believe he's staying out of the process because he doesn't like Biden.
