Why do we use expensive missiles in places like Syria?

We have bombs that are capable of bring total carnage for like $5,000 each. Why do we use these million $ missiles when it is obviously overkill.
And in the spirit of keeping threads to a minimum. I voted for Trump and am not happy with what we signed up for so far. More vacations than Obama, Health Care failure, getting involved in Foreign affairs and on twitter 24/7.
Sick of it.

Because relatively speaking they are not expensive.

Why risk air assets when you can strike from a place the enemy can't touch you?
This wasn't a strike on some radical Islam group, it was on an actual military with the capacity to shoot back.

I'm bouncing between seriously answering your question or just insulting you.
I surmise either would have a similar outcome.

Because Russia has placed advanced AA systems in Syria and if some of the reports are correct they may have shot down over half of our cruise missiles before they reached the airbase. We actually held back and didn't use our more sophisticated cruise missiles, some of which are designed with larger payloads to destroy runways.

This. To lose a plane or people in this operation would have been a disaster. Cruise missiles equal low risk, high chance of success.

Because the military love to play with toys and when given the chance, they want to use the cool ones.

You obviously don't know a thing about Russia's anti-cruise missile capabilities with their S300 and S400 AA systems that are present in Syria.

You call destroying some of their planes, buildings and fuel depots not striking shite? I guess dead bodies only count?
This was a shot across the bow, sans the water and boat.

Haven't you heard, the libtards say Trump owns stock in the companies that make the missles, so they need more business.
