Why do we need a US Department of Education? It has an annual budget of $73 billion. I don't understand why any of these functions can't be achieved at the state level. Unlike other departments such as the Justice Department, education doesn't need to cross state lines. Are we not supposed to be a federation? It's a waste of $73 billion, not truthful to states' rights, sovereignty, and decentralized government.

We don't.

Because it's nothing more than distributing center of grants and all sorts of goodies to states and schools.

Good. That can be handled in state capitals. There is no reason any of this needs to go north of the state capitals. Common core should be a non-issue. I don't give a damn what other states are doing.

One reason why Betsy Devos was picked.

She's going to crush that shite into oblivion and/or shift the money to things the teachers unions hate.

Then DeVos should be willing to abdicate her job and actively work to fold it. Of course I really don't know what Congress thinks of this.

Finally someone gets it.

The qualifications mean shite in terms of the office. It's the qualifications about killing it.

Which is exactly what is needed.
