There's an auxiliary SF crew that runs out of Gulfport airport. Probably nothing to do with it, but whatever.

Because France is an ally and we host plenty of their forces on US soil for training rotations, etc.

Not in my experience.

But to be fair, that was a long time ago.

Partying with O in Destin and ducking under the radar by flying into Keesler instead of Eglin?

If it was a large plane, I'm guessing cargo. Large military cargo planes have to have a global reach. Maybe just be a training flight to practice trans-Atlantic, intercontinental and so forth. Pilots need these long flights to strange places so they are accustomed to doing it. Military flying isn't quite the same as commercial where they fly the same routes to the same airports all the time. Military pilots have to get away from home base.

New Orleans used to get French navy ships in port all the time. Have not heard of it lately but then I'm not checking.

The French are an important ally . We have basically farmed out patrol of the Med and parts of the Caribbean to them due to having the departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique there and French Guiana further south
