If you are going to whine about what college costs, don't go.
I know plenty of people who make more money than people with advanced degrees and they only have a diploma.
Have you told your parents they are stupid?

You keep talking about inflation vs prices of things, but not about wages being largely stagnant. Moreso you just keep ignoring this fact too. Why should anyone engage with you? You’re either not smart enough or too biased to have this discussion.

Educational deficit - and they are not trained enough to even understand what that means

So many vague statements and hurt feelings from the boomers in this thread. Snowflakes in every generation I guess.

Sorry that I am a thinking person.
You are the furthest thing possible. You are nothing more than a bitter boomer lacking the emotional stability and intelligence to confront the realities of their own failures. You constantly deny your own mistakes of which there are many, and place blame for all of societies ills on a generation you fricking raised.
You are the very definition of an old man yelling at clouds.

Which one, and how much was your tuition in the 80s?
I went to South Dakota School of Mines. I graduated with BS & MS degrees in Metallurgical Engineering. I had zero support from my parents - they didn't have the money to help. I worked throughout school, and took out student loans. This was normal.
SD Mines markets itself on the value of its degrees - the line about avg starting salary being higher than the cost of the 4 year undergraduate degree. There are a handful of similar engineering school opportunities.
So the average starting salary of a Mines new grad is about $75K - that's full cost of attendance. I don't live in Rapid City anymore, but I'm a partner in a company there where we employ engineering students from Mines. WE pay them about $20/hr, and working 15-20 hours per week is typical, depending on class/lab schedules.

FFS you guys are economic illiterates.
You refuse to accept the fact that you didn’t have it hard and shite was both significantly easier and cheaper.
Seriously, you could buy a home, raise a family, purchase a car, etc., all while working a job that didn’t require a college degree.
That isn’t even arguable.
I recently finished my training in my field of medicine.
I dump every extra dollar into retirement and savings. I currently drive a 16 year old car.
I am as frugal as can be.

no hurt feelings on my part. I pity people who never received a proper education and cant seriously discuss anything.
profoundly lacking in thinking ability. Thats pathetic.

You're suggesting the wages have been stagnant the last 40 years? I just posted about the average starting salary of a new grad engineer at SD Mines is about $75K now. That's a BS degree. I graduated with a BS & MS, and my first job out of school started at $28K.
That $28K then is about the same as $75K today. So in real terms, yep - stagnant. But if you view the cost of living the same way (factored for inflation and value), things are about the same today as they were then.

I never said I had it hard. Compared to my parents, I had it really easy and good.
What I disagree with is that you have it harder. You don't.

I have worked a 50 year career, have been published multiple times, I have worked in one of the most technologically advanced fields, have successful raised three people born in your same cohort. They have turned out nothing like your pathetic whiny arse ignorance.. LOTS MORE!
So, there is NOTHING to even hint that you have any clue about the sniveling why azz shite you can not, for some reason, avoid. You show yourself to be nothing but an azzhole, a whining pathetic azzhole.

At some point, you just have to pat them on the head, hand them their Metamucil, and put them to bed.

And you guys still haven't posted anything other than your feelings and assumptions that suggest wages haven't increased at the same rate as costs.
You are economic illiterates. You actually believe life in 2022 is harder than it was generations past.
The fact is there has never been an easier/better time to be alive than right now. Do you seriously think the remarkable advancements in computing, medicine, materials and the internet have made life more difficult?
