Why are "free traders" quiet about foreign tariffs but apoplectic about U.S. tariffs?
I think we know why.

Like Justin Amash's Chinese tool business that set's up manufacturing in China they want to enjoy the protectionism of Chinese tariffs but want the free open access to U.S. markets so they can drain American wealth.

This is only one example among many.

Every country around the world protects their industries and wealth but when America does it the Democrat/RINO Chamber of Commerce RINO Cucks scream MUH Free Trade.

Because they do not understand economics and follow what the media tells them to follow. As long as it is against Trump it must be correct

It is amazing how quickly these phonies discover their Free Trade“ principles “ when America begins to benefit or their own investments are threatened. For decades before that,as America took it in the shorts, nary a peep.

I believe you are on the right track but have the sequence backwards.

The multinationals with manufacturing staked out in slave labor countries understand the economics very well. The leaders of these multinationals, e.g. Koch Brothers, Tim Cook, even smaller players like Justin Amash, and many others, feed MUH free trade to the U.S. media, universities, lobbyists like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and non-profits like the Cato Institute to perpetuate MUH free trade minus reciprocity knowing full well that reciprocity will never take place so they can enjoy the protections of the slave labor counties and free access to U.S. markets.

Trumps going to win again. I'm really getting tired of all this winning. And he's probably going to win the 2020 Presidency, AGAIN. Winning, Winning, Winning, this man makes me sick. He wins too much for a dumb Hitler type.

But I still say MAGA...KAG...'Merica...BUILD THE WALL...VOTE for CONSERVATIVES...VOTE OUT RINOs and COMMUNIST (DEMS)!!

WINNING

WINNING

COMMUNIST LOSING

Bingo!

And as it's easier for behemoths like walmart to access international slavelabor manufacturing, they can undercut their competition with cheaper goods. Albeit with pesky problems like aiding and abetting a non-ally, IP theft, human rights transgressions, trademark/copyright violations, asymmetric market access/costs, etc. As long as retail margin is good at a lower price point than competitors, the barrier to new entry is effective, and it's "worth it".

Then suddenly Mr. BadOrangeMan upset the applecart.

ETA: Same as Zuckerberg begging for Government regulations. Would that be a PITA for facebook? Sure! But regulation would be a nearly insurmountable barrier to new entry. THAT is the game!

The problem is that a lot of you Trumpkins don't understand that the imposition of tariffs on a whim actually fricks with small American businesses and farmers too, which are supposedly the people you are trying to protect.

This whole thread is going to be about muh globalists and muh Koch brothers. Meanwhile, lots of everyday American businesses are going to suffer because of all of this political theater.

Why do you think so many small businesses are opposed to the tariffs?

Tariffs in general are bad, let’s get that straight. But, the US has to impose tariffs in order to reign China in on trade negotiations. Trumps 100% correct on using tariffs in trade negations with anyone that’s screwing us.

So you think the government knows better than the small businesses that oppose these moves?

You think business owners are concerned about anything besides their own interests? The government has a responsibility to the greater good. Our manufacturing base has been destroyed because of unfair trade deals. Big business loves their oversees profit margins and cheap labor.

What greater good? Whose interests are being protected? Small business? American consumers? Who?

I reposted a second ago. Our steel & manufacturing base has taken it on the chin for all those businesses using cheap labor overseas.

I think that many Free Trade ideologues are rigid and don’t know the difference between a very worthy economic principle and a short term STRATEGY used as leverage against a trade “ partner” that is fricking the US.

A pro US pragmatist who cares about the long term strategy here understands that unorthodox and non- ideological “Big Stick” strategies are sometimes required to reset the relationship. And that’s what we see here, an audacious defense of America by America in the long term interest of America.

It’s important to note that we got to this point bc of disastrous trade deals by our previous elected officials. In order to fix those deals, there will be short term pain to get to a great future deal. The alternative is to slowly bleed out as foreign countries squeeze the same groups you’re defending. Then, you’ll belly ache that trump never did anything

The situation is less than ideal. But in order to get where we want to be, we have to sacrifice in the short term.

And trump is using subsidies to try to help farmers who are caught in the middle of this, too.

Odd question. Do you think the government knows better than a bank robber? Answer: They both "know" better. One acts on that knowledge. The other casts it aside in pursuit of money.

ETA: Not comparing business to theft. Just pointing out the disconjugate nature of your question.

This is all about NEGOTIATING. The public, especially the media, harps on the first thing out of Trump’s mouth (5% tariffs on Mexico) without even realizing it’s just the starting point in negotiations.

The dignity of a job over welfare.

and

A greater production economy over a service economy. That is you need to make stuff to create and afford services. Services don't come without a foundation of production. The stronger the based of production the more and higher quality services that an economy can produce/offer for its participators.
