Why are Democrats feigning outrage re Cruz?

So he went on a planned vacation to Mexico with his family. What exactly was he supposed to do to make the power come back on in Texas? Is every single elected official in TX required to stay at home whenever anything bad happens in the state?

You're not wrong in your thinking, but the optics are just easy ammo for media and opponents.
Also, currently watching his live interview on what took place, and he's not helping himself. I generally like Cruz, but he's not going to come out of this on the favorable side.

The quotes sounded like his kids wanted to go because school was canceled for the rest of the week. So I don’t think this was planned. However the outrage is big dumb. Wtf is he gonna do anyway? Same thing he does 99.9% of the rest of the time. Nothing.

It wasn’t per his own comments a planned vacay. That being said I don’t give a frick, but, man, for a politician can you think of a worse decision/optics?

Yes. Who was the Democrat who went out on the lake right after they banned going out on the lake during COVID?
There’s also been plenty of them spotted dining with friends after telling people they couldn’t have Thanksgiving or go out to eat. Or Nancy Pelosi getting a haircut after her state shut down salons.
Going to Mexico during a snow storm is a nothing burger. I know plenty of people who went to the beach ahead of these storms and/or stayed longer instead of coming back to all the mess.
If the mayor of Houston peaced out a d turned off his phone, yeah that might be bad. But a Senator who lives in DC most of the year? Seriously?

Not good optics but this isn’t like the mayor of Austin or other progressive idiots telling everyone they can’t leave their homes and travel during a pandemic, meanwhile they are literally saying that while in Mexico or some other tourist spot lol
