Raiding the former president's house is not gonna help with that!

Weeding out jurors who don't trust the government appears be a top priority in the retrial of two men accused of plotting to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — if the judge's questions and comments are any indication.

As jury selection began Tuesday morning, the judge asked prospective jurors repeatedly about how they felt about the government, noting that the case is loaded with controversial issues: a sitting governor's response to the pandemic, mask mandates, lockdowns and an FBI investigation into an alleged plot to kidnap her.

During jury selection in the last trial, which ended with no convictions, the judge asked prospective jurors if they could set aside their political views or any preconceived ideas about the case. But he didn't focus as heavily on the topic of mistrust in the government as he did Tuesday, when multiple hands went up when asked if they had reservations about being fair in this case due to mistrust of the government.

"I don't like politicians or politics. I don't personally trust them ... I just don't particularly trust the government in general," said one woman, a hairdresser. "It's a very unpopular opinion to have to say out loud in federal court."

Someone that despises this puppet-state should feel obligated to do whatever it takes to make it on this jury. I wouldn't have raised my hand.

In my jury selection for later this month, they ask all kinds of prying questions. I put "nunya" as the answers

I am not certain I would be impartial on my next jury, unless they had some damning, high def, video evidence and even then I am going with the video was modified on the 50/50...

Oh definitely.

I'd pay to be on that jury.

So they are weeding out people so they only get people who fully trust the government to preside on a case about government dishonesty and wrongdoing?

Seems legit

isnt this a clear violation of a fair trial if the judge is screening for jurors who are already prejudiced to convict?

because anyone who thinks they can trust government is a sheep that believes only the guilty go to trial

Obviously, they're doing whatever they can to ensure they get a guilty verdict.

I guess this is the new way to avoid jury duty, beating out Homer Simpson being prejudiced against all racists or Peter Griffin commenting on the number of honkies present.

My thought was it is the job of the attorneys to weed out jurors. Not the judge.

I'm sure there's some reason this isn't considered double jeopardy, but it seems suspect. Mistrial?
