In my experience it is any of the soft pseudo-sciences. People that get in to them believe they are doing science but in general they are dogmatic religions hiding behind the misnomer of *science*.

My biggest flake breeding grounds are:

1/ Sociology
2/ Psychology
3/ Gender Studies
4/ Racial Studies

Combined they are like the lymphatic system for spreading terrible ideas and always seem to attract the most broken people. I guess they get into it to discover something about themselves(?)

NOTE: I would have included social work but at least they serve a purpose by doing all of the actual work created by sociology, psychology, etc... Also, teaching is quickly catching up.

And think of the untold billions of dollars in student loan debt to confer all those worthless degrees over the last 20 years.

Anything that has "science" or "studies" in the name is generally group think garbage.

Computer science is the exception.

I need to find the Mad Magazine I have somewhere displaying plans that cost some money to ostensibly fix something and the inevitable huge cost to undo the side effects of it.

One of them was a ton of money to retrain chronically unemployed anthropology PhDs trained under the student loan bill, depicting a hobo holding a sign reading “Ask me about Pygmy mating rituals - $0.10”

I think these should be known as The Postmodern Arts since they are not science and they are all 100% invested in a nihilistic drive to destroy everything that came before them.

How could you leave out English?

True story:

When I was at Tulane in 1990 or so I took an English class. The first paper that was assigned was to write a 20 page paper on some topic that literally made no sense. We were reading Chaucer and the assignment was to write the paper about the deeper meaning of The Miller's Tale (like 'How does the Miller's Tale correlate with people's favorite cheese?'). The professor was so in love with his own intellect that it was just some masturbatory exercise. It was my first glimpse of how the *super smart* (professors) are actually the stupidest people of all. The more time spent in academia, the less useful your thoughts are.

Usually in the range of 50/50 in the degree field... but the flaky ones are the flakiest of the flaky as evidenced here...

My first major English comp assignment was about "monsters" in society. The professor referred to Ted Bundy as Al Bundy about 10 times during the lecture preceding the assignment and everyone laughed each time. She kept stopping and looking around trying to figure out why we were laughing.

Those who can teach. Those who cannot become professors.

And it's the taxpayers responsibility to pick up the tab, don't you know?

Three and Four on that list are completely illegitimate. I have more respect for folks with degrees in drywallology from Devry U. At least those folks are actually doing something useful and filling a need in civilized society.
