Where were you on 9/11

My story here:
I remember the day all too well. I was working for Georgia Power at the time. I am a master electrician, and was working in maintenance at a large coal-fired power generating plant which produced 1760 megawatts at peak demand. I have since retired, but I remember the plant going into full lock-down mode on that day. There were two entrance gates, one each at the north and south ends of the plant, and the entire property was surrounded by razor-wire fences. Both entrances were closed, and no one could enter or leave for the next eight hours, except for local, state, and federal authorities. It seemed like every state and federal agency in existence showed up that day. The general thinking was that a generating plant of this size could have been a target. At some point later in the day, the powers that be deemed the threat to be over, and began to allow folks to go home. Thankfully, I had been on the phone back and forth with my wife, and she had checked my kids out of school, so I knew they were all safe.
When the time came, Georgia Power (subsidiary of The Southern Company), sent crews to New York to help with the clean-up and rebuilding. I volunteered for the crew, and spent the next twelve weeks in New York city helping with the recovery. It was almost surreal the devastation and destruction that I witnessed. There are images I will take to my grave, but I am thankful that I was able to hopefully help out in some small way.

I was driving in to work at the law firm I was with and caught wind something was up when the local news talk show I was listening to first mentioned a plane crash into the first tower but there was a lot of confusion at the time. I stopped to get gas when the second plane hit and that pretty much cleared the confusion up right away. I got into the law firm and of course it was on our main TV in the conference room with all the attorneys and staff glued to it. One of the main attorneys was more distraught than the others it seemed and she let out that she was supposed to be in a meeting in one of the towers' upper floors but it had been cancelled at the last minute. I couldn't imagine that feeling watching how close your destiny was to having been written in that manner...

At work. Went to a bar when it opened and watched the madness for hours.
Fricking goat humpers.

6th grade
for some reason, we had P.E. first thing in the morning. came back to class and all the teacher were in awe. the first plane had already hit and we piled into one room to watch the news. saw the second plane hit live. i want to say it was ABC coverage we were watching that morning.

Freshman in college. The first plane had already hit when I woke up in my dorm room. Saw the second plane hit on live tv. Collected my thoughts for a few minutes, then went to class, a decision I regret. Heard about the pentagon while I was in class. Returned to my dorm after another class, had no idea the towers had fallen until I talked to my mom on the phone. still remember the day rather vividly.

I was in first grade didn't grasp all that was happening until watching the news after school with my family and seeing my mom and dad in tears not knowing how to really describe the situation to me and my two brothers

I was at work at my desk. A coworker walked in and said his mom called him said an airplane had just hit one of the towers, didn’t think much of it thinking it was a small plane and an accident. Then he came in and said another plane hit the second tower, room fell completely silent. We all went to the conference room and watched the news coverage for the rest of the day in complete disbelief

I imagine that scenario played out in many homes that day.

My husband was standing on the sidewalk when the plane went over his head and into the tower. His office was nearby. I was teaching school and waited hours to hear from him that he was ok. Our town lost many people. Such a horrific day.

On a Disney Cruise ship parked at their private island waking up from a bottle of crown the night before. The folks in the next cabin were from New York and they came out pale as can be. This was the point I became a fan of Disney for the way the company handled everything in the chaos.
Last December took another Disney Cruise and the Sr Officer in charge of lodging was on that exact same ship.

Yeah, after the second one, there was little doubt.

Had just entered the lobby of SPAWAR out at the ITC. Saw on the giant screen that the first tower had already been hit.
At the time, many speculated that it was an accident.
It wasn't long before the second plane hit, and we realized the stark reality.
Then the grisly images of what the victims were going through started coming over our computers.
It took them until near 12 o'clock to decide to empty the buildings and secure them.
All part of a country that wasn't ready for "the enemy within."
