Blaming the democrats. Interesting. 5 dems voteed for the measure, 5 Republicans didn’t, thus cancelling each other out. Throw in the two Independents who votes against.
We are always gong to have extremes on both sides. We are rarely going to get 60% - 70% to agree on everything. Compromise is when those in the 60%-70% group get something they can agree with while giving up something. Louisiana and national politics are so divided compromise seems impossible.

You serious, Clark?
If you're not trolling and want an honest answer then it starts with understanding what this shutdown is truly about.
The Democrats in Congress have decided that making DACA's into American citizens is more important than passing a budget or even a CR. One of Trump's main platforms on the campaign trail was ending illegal immigration, and just giving blanket amnesty to those already here is only a placebo (we learned this from when Reagan tried it) at best.
Even the best negotiators will hit a roadblock when the opposition is determined to get something the other side is completely unwilling to budge on. What it boils down to now is who can withstand the most scrutiny on this. We know Trump has been able to weather pretty much everything, but when has Schumer really been tested to that level?
The argument literally comes down to putting the needs of America first versus putting the needs of those here illegally first. Schumer and his allies have opted to put illegals first and believe that's a winning idea because they see that if they can push any sort of amnesty then they will gain the votes of all those that become legalized. They can try to play it out with some moral or ethical slant but even that will come across as flimsy as Bill Clinton's infamous "what 'is' is" response.
When you have the upper hand in a negotiation, you don't fold. That's exactly why Trump is allowing the shut down.

What did he actually do to get a deal made
Well to be fair, and if we're to believe the NYT story this morning, he and Schumer actually did come to a deal yesterday, but Kelly squashed it. It supposedly gave Trump the funding for his wall in exchange for Dreamer protections.
Who's to say if Congressional R's would have agreed to that deal though.

You have become one of the most team based partisan posters on the board. I think you are trying to get back on the good side of the crazies after you lost their favor being a reasonable human in 2016.

Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top," Trump said. "I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president's the leader. And he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."
He said that further down in history, "when they talk about the government shutdown, they're going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time."

That's why John Kelly had to surround him with handlers this past 2 weeks.
