Where was all this coverage and outrage after Vegas?
Posted by ell_13 on 2/28/18 at 9:26 am142
Were there no kids to manipulate and parade around?
Were there no liberals in the crowd getting shot for other liberals to care enough?
The contrast in these two events both in scale, reaction, and coverage is mind boggling in general yet sad because we all really know why, don't we?

I guess there was no son of a FBI agent who happened to be somewhere in the vicinity of the concert in Vegas that got shot up. Tough break for the media.

I still contend that was the reason for the cover up. It was so plain to see, yet we were told to wait for the facts. Months later, still no facts.
In all previous mass shootings (save maybe Sandy Hook), the survivors and their families weren't social media-savvy enough to keep the focus on the damage caused by the NRA and the hardline policies of the Republican Party. So there's some outrage, but after a week or two the general public gets distracted by something else, and/or reaches the conclusion that nothing will be done so why waste the energy.
This time, the survivors and their families know how to pull media attention and aren't letting us change the subject. Good ol' First Amendment!

I think with Vegas there was, and still is, a good bit of mystery surrounding the shooter, his motives and what actually happened. WIth those unknowns still out there, it made it difficult to move on to the next question of "how do we prevent this?"
In the case of Parkland, it was a familiar scene, with familiar motives, a familiar shooter, and a familiar weapon. With those initial questions answered, and given that we have been down this road before but ended up back in this situation again, it makes the time ripe for activism pushing for change.

In a sense, they are. When TV requests are driven by engagement, and these kids are driving their own engagement by roasting conservatives again and again (and again ) on twitter....
It's only natural TV producers will want to get a little bit of that retweet magic for their programs.

How quickly you forget. It was just buried like this one be will be too until there is another.

It was a country music concert, therefore they likely voted trump and deserved to be ruthlessly mass murdered. Sounds backwards, but who are we to question our moral superiors?
