That abridges the right of people to peacefully assemble. How is this shelter in place legal?

It’s not, people just either don’t know about their rights or don’t care anymore. Pretty much everything states and local governments are doing right now is in direct violation of constitutional rights. I worry the nationalization of industries becoming an increasingly popular policy tool could lead to the destruction of private property rights. I worry that Congress is flagrantly bypassing their duty to regulate the money supply by giving the Federal Reserve almost unlimited authority to print and distribute money. So there are a lot of constitutional issues at hand. But no one cares about the constitution anymore, only when it’s politically convenient.

This is basically how they will slowly usher in socialism one crisis at a time. Repeat after me “for the greater good for the greater good”

Coronavirus will eventually pass, but the government will NEVER FORGET how easily the public laid down to give up their freedom to the will and control of the government

No right is absolute. People should also value common sense.

Rights are god-given or natural, like the right to life, liberty, and property, or the pursuit of happiness. Entrusting them to the government is foolish and dangerous. There is no guarantee that you’ll get those rights back. A perfect example of that is the Patriot Act, which, while implemented during 9/11, was just quietly reauthorized while all this was going on.

Go look at the OP board that got almost 200 upvotes for the pastor getting arrested.

Greater good, public safety, and public interest trump some basic freedoms. It’s kind of at the crux of the classic free speech and yelling fire in the crowded theater lesson. Govt reach expands in these cases.

But you can sure yell, “RAPE!”

It’s unconstitutional. Cite for the

This really worries me. Private property rights will come under fire soon enough. I suspect it will be something like “ billionaires have huge empty mansions all over the country that they don’t even use! They need to be used as triage centers for the people! This public health emergency overrides private property rights. It’s just common sense!”

$500 fines are being handed out for walking outside. Your idea may not be that far off!

The Constitution is not a suicide pact, but ignoring it in order to enter a suicide pact is even worse.

I think the whole point of individual rights is I think you're common sense is nothing short of looney tunes and should not be subjected to the fallout from your Irrationality.

Imagine thinking a constitution that as interpreted allows the federal government to dictate what you grow on your own land, allows police to claim a smell to search your car, and allows for the government to shut you the hell up when they want is a constitution that has any power at all.

Wake up

The constitution is worthless. The fed.gov doesnt give a shite what it says.

Shall not be infringed? Infringe the frick out of it at every turn.

Nah we have already lost everything in the bill of rights

If the government wants to wield its authority and maximize its overreach to strip away individual liberties in an effort to "protect" the greater good, it will.

We saw this with the enactment of the Patriot Act. We saw this when this country threw Japanese-American citizens into concentration camps during WWII.

You have no rights.
