When, specifically, did our emotions/feelings become more important than anything else?

This question was asked by VanRIch on PT last night and I wanted to revisit it with the day crew for more thoughts.

"The only reasons I’ve seen from the left for why the voted for Biden are rooted in emotion or their feelings. And that would be the only reason because no one can honestly, HONESTLY, say that think Biden is a better president that will make the country better and truly cares about the American people. It’s absurd. People care more about the ‘rights’ of people that they’ve never met at the expense of the future of their own families. I get more and more completely fricking pissed off at the disgusting people in this country that support this administration* and the shite they’re trying to pull on us. I don’t know what can be done but I’m ready to join whatever someone figures out. This bullshite needs to end. Wake the frick up America."

Here was my response:

My opinion? It happened when we gave a voice to the historically voiceless. It began with Social Media. Literally anyone with an internet connection can now publicly call the President of the United States of America anything they want and the whole world can see it. Trump tweets and the first comment is "frick you pussy" It has completely shattered any sense of respect or societal norm. It gave a platform for the mentally ill, morally corrupt, and socially awkward. It normalized weirdness and it gave bravery to the introverts. When that happened, inevitably all the otherwise buried, twisted ideology came to light. Now more than ever, every idea, opinion, misconception or belief based in ignorance can be heard worldwide. Then herd mentality set in, one person said it, another echoed it and it became a movement. Gender equality, transphobia, white supremacy, take your pick. If enough people see it and hear it, it grows, no matter how absurd, there's always a handful of like minded people. Then there's those that support these ideas out of some sick sense of guilt or virtue signaling without regard to the greater picture. America became a country driven by feelings the moment the basement dwelling, introverted, uneducated, undisciplined, morally bankrupt population gained the ability to have thier voices heard. It started with the destruction of the nuclear household and the catalyst that exploded it was social media. I have no clue how to fix it and i think it will only get worse unfortunately.

Just my two cents

When the left ran out of election issues and had to divide the country again. They are in the business of creating problems not solving them.

You have taken me out of my safe space. I am traumatized by your post and will be RA'ing because viewpoints that differ from the correct opinions have no place in America.

As soon as the left realized they could capitulate to those emotions and demands for political gain and power. Now it is all that matters. If we never gave credence to this horseshite in the first place, it would have ended a long time ago. But that’s not how Marxism/Nazism/communism works.

I think it relates to language/words, and also highlights how important they are.

I noticed about ten years ago my kids using the phrase "I feel like" in ways that the historic norm would be "I think" ... I'd ask them, "you actually have feelings about _________?" And they'd look at me like I was an alien. I had to explain over and over the difference between emotions and thought/logic. To this day I correct my youngest on this, but it's something that now pervades culture. And it's important. It normalizes feeling your way through life/issues, rather than spending at least some of the time considering facts/reality.

When we elected a Marxist as president and then “elected” his former VP to finish the job.

This debacle is summed up best by

It happened when the Marlboro man image was shite canned in favor of men getting in touch with their feelings.

I was a youngster and looked up to Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, William Holden, Warren Oates, even Charles Bronson. Their characters took no shite, had good hearts (usually) and portrayed the type of man I wanted to be. Movie directors like Michael Mann and Sam Peckinpah are hard to find currently.

It began with The media buying into Bill Clinton’ s faux I gel tot pain hypocritical bull shite. This has governed virtually all of liberal media victim driven narratives . No matter the issue these despicable and deplorable media elites will spin it so that whatever position the Democrats take they are advocates for some victim group and The hard hearted Republicans are taking away their non existent rights.

1991 when the Soviet Union fell is the beginning of it. We no longer recognize evil, so we elected a senile nice old man to lead this country. Unfortunately the idiots who voted for him think the only evil out there is the Orange Man who tweets mean things and his followers. Evil has not been nor will it ever be ultimately defeated, it just mutates. Today the main evil in the world are the CCP and Russia. But no, let’s just sleep in while the Japanese Prime Minister comes to town and completely disrespect him.

Emotions/Feelings are easily manipulated. It is easy to get someone to act impulsively based on how they feel. It is harder to get someone to analyze data and plan a course of action based on facts.

I agree whole heartedly, as a population we "tolerate" entirely too much. We do it because "it doesn't affect us" how many times have I heard "doesn't matter who's president, it won't really affect me" that narrative has changed. It's affecting all of us now. MSM is doctoring video to incite hatred, people are catering to 5% of the country and biting the hand that feeds them. We are in a massive downward spiral and I have no idea how we get out of the tailspin.

I was literally shaking why I was reading this! I can’t pinpoint the place I got offended, but I feel like I should have been.

It has always been emotion with women. Now, they are not married to men who think logically and explain things to them. They are single and buy into whatever their college prof told them because they lack critical thinking skills.

We have become a female driven society politically. It will not end well.

When men stopped being men because being a man and doing manly things became something to villainize. For some reason I cannot begin to fathom guys bought into the notion that being what we naturally are was wrong. From something as mundane as holding a door open for a woman to actually noticing a woman’s curves and enjoying them. Thank you, Ladies we love you for those and much more. Anyway, we became soft and it carries over to society at large. A modern day “man” isn’t something our grandfathers would recognize. Even the testosterone levels have dropped in today’s younger males compared to generations that came before.
