One of my all time favorite writers. I discovered him as a teenager in the 90s when he wrote for Rolling Stone. My parents are both lifelong democrats. His pieces are probably amongst the first things I read that made me question the utility of big government.

I read most of his books in my 20s. Just read Modern Manners about 5ish years ago. Written in 1983 and still holds up because of his wit.
