What’s it cost you to live in this country/state annually?

Looking at what I paid in federal/state income taxes only-after refund the government keeps about $1800/month.

I’m a single guy with no spouse or kids.
So $1800/month and what am I getting in return?

I really wish we would do away with automatic deductions. Bring back the door to door tax collector. Have that bag of silver ready.

Might wake some people up.

True, it’s a hidden cost for most.

Hahahaha, no...why do you ask?

My “wake up” comment? Hahahha

The government may as well be though because they have managed to have people sleep on many issues.

Confiscatory taxes baw, we're living in a quasi-socialist country. This illusion of representative government is just that.....an illusion. Our form of government changed drastically after the Civil War. We went from a Consitutional Republic to that of a Federation with power centralized at the top in Washingnton. With that came the power (utilizing the IRS) to tax and deduct from your paycheck (and mine) whatever the hell the government says it needs. I firmly believe it will only get worse, unless the People take action.

This Federation now acts with impunity.Take for example the debacle at the FBI with the FISA warrants and the spying on the Trump Campaign. In spite of clear evidence the FBI obtained the FISA warrants under false pretenses, nothing has been done and no one has been indicted. Nothing!

Louis Lerner pleaded the fifth during her hearing on her role in the IRS targeting of Conservative 501(c)3 groups. She then went on to assert her innocence. When she did that she clearly relinquished her right to plead the fifth. To date she has not served one day in jail. Basically all she got was a slap of the hand. Nothing!

Need I mention Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton lying to us about the massacre at Benghazi? Or Eric Holder lying to us about the government involvement in gun running to drug cartel operatives in "Fast and Furious"? [I'm convinced F&F was a DOJ-Obama back door effort to justify gun control] Nothing. No one has spent one day in jail.

These examples of blatant disregard for the law is systemic to a Federation. Remember under a Federation power is centralized at the top. The massive size of our government is such that hardly anything involving punishment for crooked bureaucrats ever gets addressed. In fact, the corruption only feeds the system, and creates need for more bureaucrats (i.e. lawyers etc)

There is really only one option left for the People to rein in this out-of-control Federation. It's called a Consitutional Convention of States (COS). Google it on the internet. Right now there are patriots in every state trying to make a COS happen. There are those who argue a COS involves risk. Maybe so, but we have to do something. This government (Federation) will continue its confiscatory transfer of wealth from us....to the central government.

Think about it!

I agree.

We also need to bring back the guy that goes door to door with his cart to pick up your dead.

Taxation is theft. There’s really no other way to put it. I too, pay very large fines for being a successful person.

Military protection, roads you drive on, relatively affordable air travel, cheap gas prices, criminal justice system. The list goes on, and there's an argument in asking if we're all getting a good return on our investment. Taxes suck, but the alternative isn't very pretty either.

Dude, we elect members of Congress. They pass tax and budget legislation. The President signs the bills.

You may not agree with the congressional candidates chosen by a plurality of Americans and you may not agree with their bills and/or voting record, but you get to vote on your leaders.

I'm not sure what makes taxes unique in this context.
