'Fang, a 3-year-old German shepherd, worked as a dual-purpose bomb detector and patrol dog for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The dog was approaching a carjacking suspect when it was shot and killed, officials said. The suspect was eventually caught by another K-9 and was taken into custody. '

What a beautiful officer! Somehow, these killings make me even angrier (if that's possible) than those of human officers. These dogs are amazing! RIP!

So your more angry over a dog dying than an actual human police officer? It’s sucks, but that seems kinda odd.

Our love for animals is dehumanizing.

The penalty should simply be the same as killing any animal or destruction of property of similar value.

Love ya wifey but people who put animals lives ahead of human lives have their priorities wrong.

That dog will not leave behind a spouse, children, parents, siblings...etc.

Up to 5 Years. There are enhancements that can make it longer based on prior record.

(2) Any person who knowingly and willfully and without lawful cause or justification inflicts bodily harm, permanent disability, or death upon a police dog, fire dog, SAR dog, or police horse commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

I said 'somehow.' Not necessarily more or less. No, I don't value animal life more than human life.

I think I know how you feel, conservativewifey. The dogs don't choose their profession like the humans do. They are at the mercy of the humans putting them in dangerous situations so it kinda sucks when they lose their lives that way.

I'm not a legal expert, but I'm pretty sure that killing pet or a service animal is a felony that carries poyential prison time

Pretty sure this peep is in for a bad time

I love dogs, but if my dog was shot by the police because it barked at them, and they "feared for their safety" as happens what seems like every day, my dog would be just a dog, so I don't see the killing of the police dog any differently.

The way you stated your sentiment was pretty clear I thought, not sure why people would think you valued the dog more.

Several K9 Officers have left dogs to die in extremely hot vehicles just recently. No charges and they kept their jobs.

People are disgusting with their weird anthropmorphism of Dogs/ animals. And their hypocrisy.

Your premise is weak as hell. Therefore your conclusion sucks.

No human killed. Allow us to feel bad over the death of an animal killed doing a job designed to make humans safer. If that offends you, tough shite.

Except these dogs cost tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours to train. Do you want your bomb sniffing dog or rescue dog to be an idiot? This is why the penalties are harsher for harming these animals.
