What is a right, fundamentally, at a basic level? And is it important?

We seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding in this country of a very important distinction. A distinction somewhat unique and enshrined in the founding of this country and the text of the constitution. Read the preamble to The Constitution here
Rights are not granted to the people by the government. We grant the government the authority to infringe upon our god given rights. This country was founded on the principle that government is created with the ongoing consent of the governed and is bound by and answers to the governed.
We seem to have flipped that on its head. We keep asking the government for permission to exercise our rights and pretending that it can grow itself without our expressed permission and to our detriment.
We as people have a right to exist and be free. Governments do not have rights. You weigh your freedom vs the loss of that freedom. Not your rights vs the rights of your government.
Here’s an example: The government infringes on your second amendment right when it stops you from buying a firearm.
We allow that infringement for a fixed time period. That’s a compromise. Allowing a longer or unlimited period is too great an infringement with too great a downside. Your rights in that case far outweigh the government interest in restricting that right.
That should make you happy. That our government is restrained.
I cannot understand the demand that the government take more freedom from you. Or worse that the government itself should determine which freedoms you are allowed to exercise. Why would you ask for that?

The majority of people do not think this way. That is why is turning the world to shite. Technology has made us reliant. We don’t make food anymore. We don’t make cars. We don’t make anything. We take what is given to us. It has been a long burn to wear the population down. While I agree and I’m sure many others agree with you… the truth is that most people do not have that view at all. Most people need what the MSN and government are willing to give us.
All it takes is another lock down. We all say that Covid is dead and not an issue anymore. What would happen if the cdc and federal and state departments start requiring lockdowns of businesses again?
My guess is that everyone would abide and it is disgusting. We are lost and doomed as a free state democracy

The fact of the matter is that we as humans have absolutely zero fundamental, basic rights.
We only have what those in government allow us to have. And there is. It a single “right” that can’t be taken from us at a moment’s notice.
This fact has been proven throughout history time and time again.

So true here.
We have outsourced everything making us reliant on everyone else
When it all goes to shite/or there is a prolonged shutdown.. then we are cutoff and basically held hostage. ( oil/chips for vehicles as a good example)

THE RIGHTS SCALE
3. Right
2. Human Right
1. Basic Human Right
If you want something, call whatever it is a "basic human right".

Can I upgrade to deluxe human rights?

A right is something you or someone on your behalf is willing to and can successfully defend with violent force if needed.

Even conservatives act this way. Many people on this board want the government to dictate what substances a person can and cannot consume. There should only be restrictions on actions that cause others harm and protections for children. It's shameful on how many people on both the right and left want to the government to take away freedoms. The primary responsibility of the government should be ensuring that individual freedoms aren't restricted.
